One of my guineas has got a huge lump under its chin down by her throat area, I will take her to the vet but she is very under the weather and wanted to see wether she would pick up, as she has just had a huge up heavail and seem to be taking a long time to chill out over it! what do you think it could be, it is a huge mass and doesn't move around?

Could be an abscess.
Which will need draining.

But i'm sure the vet will tell you what it is for 100%, and he/she will give you drugs for little guinea, maybe you could get her critial care or science recovery?

Is she eating on and hay and everything?

Wish i could help, but I'm a newbie guinea pig owner. Best of luck though with it xx

I agree, best to get a vet or the CCT to look at it as if its an absess or a cyst etc it will need to be dealt with by them.
Keep her warm and in a quiet place and keep an eye that shes eating and drinking. The vet will probably ask this as it may help with diagnosis.
Also if you can have a look at her poo, discusting I know but if it look normal you know that chances are shes eating and drinking ok.

Good luck tomorrow :)

yes she is eating and drinking ok,, am going to got to the vets tommorrow hopefully

My daisy had one of these, it was an abcess.
Good luck at the vets

My piggy Captain has had two of these too and I'm currently dealing with the second one.

Does indeed sound like the dreaded abscess. THey really are the most annoying things and need quite aggressive treatment, both with antibiotics and a lot of aftercare from the owner. THe aftercare is pretty gross but don't be put off. Your vet will probably lance and drain the abscess and give your antibiotics for about a week afterwards. Every day however, you will need to put warm cotton wool against the wound site to soften any healing scab and then squeeze. You may see thick pus ozze out. It's not runny, it's pretty cheesy.

You'll be given a syringe (with no needle) which you then insert into the wound hole and syrnge in water to flush out the remaining bacteria. I felt awful doing it the first time, but now it's no bother. Your pig will not be any discomfort, Captain only squeaks when he hears the squishy noise of the water coming out of the syringe. Easier if there is two of you, one to hold up piggy's head in position and the other to do the flushing. Wear an apron as the water does go everywhere!

My first abscess was in a awkward position and my vet did the flushing everyday for 10 days. After seeing her do it, I decided to do it myself this time and I'm mamaging fine. Perhaps ask your vet to do a couple of flushings and have a go yourself at the surgery to get the hang of it.

Capain is now so used to this that he just sits back and lets us get on with it. :)

Forgot to add,

Make sure that your vet gives you probiotics as well as antiibiotics. The antibiotics can kill off all the good bacteria in the gut and they can stop eating and get diarrohea. THey need pro-biotics to counteract this. It is an absolute necessity.

Give her the pro-biotic abut 1/2 to 45 mins after her antibiotic.

Sorry if you already knew this, I lost a pig a few years ago as I was not given any pro-biotics. His system just crashed due to the antibiotic. I've not got a huge bee in my bonnet about getting probiotics and would hate for any other piggy to suffer the same fate.

yes sounds like an abcess like boys mum I have dealt with loads of these, funnily enough they tend to grow there one of my girls had a piece of wood she had chewed from her old run and it was that that had caused her abcess it was inside the abcees when the vet operated on her , I too had to syringe the wound out but this is not always the case some of mine have had them stitched others glued together, depends on the vet and the wound, I use hibiscrub to syringe the wound out as its antibacterial so helps with the anti biotics to kill bugs and infection, some come back but I havw never lost a pig to an abcess, be warned though some of the wounds are hugh domino had an abcees on his cheek but the vet had to cut right over is shoulder over his back to get to it as it was so deep, he healed really well despite the size of the wound, good luck and get it sorted very quickly mine have not had problems eating after their ops but you might well need cc and def probiotics with the use of anti biotics ask for fiberplex a carrot flavour paste probiotic
