Now This Is Sad.

You should NEVER lie about something like that. You would be breaking a rule. Just talk to your landlord about it and come to an agreement. Usually they're fine if you assure you're financially responsible for whatever damage your pet does and you do some professional exterminations/cleanings when you move.

Yes, you could get away with this because it's probably illegal in some aspects for a landlord to come onto your home without warning unless there's an emergency. But you'd be breaching a rule and the consequences would be far more risky than having to give up your pigs. Are you sure you do not have family or friends that could take them off your hands until everything's fine? Are you sure there isn't any boarding service you could negotiate with to take them off your hands short term until everything's cleared? Please do not break a rule, that's just going against someone who is in short letting you rent a home and normally your relationship with your landlord is semi-shaky. Don't want to make it worse.

mean land lord... its not like the piggies will do any damage like chew stuff .. hope you get sorted xx

Haha yes absolutely don't need pets for that! My last tenants left bright orange and bright yellow paintwork for me to cover over (and now I'm rethinking my generosity on what I allow tenants to do in the property as a result) and the ones before that liked to have their haircut in the garden so I had handfuls of human hair to pick up... it was so very grim. Piggies free roaming would be an issue for me as wee would seep into carpet and underlay but caged animals I wouldn't have a problem with but I leave that up to a tenant to approach me and ask first. I rented a property just before I brought the house to live in and my landlord was happy for me to have the piggies in a cage so I just built a ginormous C&C for them :)

Wow that is SO gross! Idek how people can live like that, let alone wreck someone else's property.

And yes I wouldn't fancy free roaming piggies, cleaning up after them in a cage is hard enough without having to play "hunt the pee spot and poops" in your house XD

Communication is definitely the key, hopefully this landlord would be like you and be more understanding.

I'm a landlord and reasonable notice has to be given of a visit (24 hours minimum) and even then they can't enter without your permission unless there is an emergency. I can't think why a landlord would do an inspection so early into a tenancy, I only did yearly ones but the letting agent that is now in charge starts on quarterly visits.

I specifically say no pets on my tenancy as some tenants would leave the house wrecked, smelly and covered in urine. However I have made it clear to the letting agent to consult me if anyone asks because it depends on the type of pet. If someone wants to keep outdoor pets or piggies, hamsters etc where they live in a cage then I would accept that so long as they had the carpet in the animal room professionally cleaned when they left.

By keeping pets without permission please bear in mind that you would be breaching your tenancy and leaving yourself open to eviction

Lady Kelly is totally right, please be careful if you plan to keep them inside against a landlord's wished. I nearly lost a flat to a grumpy landlord who had originally agreed to my keeping caged pets in the house and then following an agreed visit, reported me to the RSPCA saying my piggy was fat and kept in too small a cage and told me I was breaching my tenancy by having pets. Unfortunately he'd never put his original agreement in writing so I had no come back on that. I found somewhere else to live but it was a huge stress...

Not entirely true though... My boys have wrecked one phone, more than one laptop charger, chewed furniture, skirting boards and carpet. Thankfully I no longer rent so this is my own problem but they can and do damage things if free ranging so as a minimum I would expect to pay an extra deposit for having pets in a rental property.

Sadly there aren't enough landlords who accept pets just because, like everything else, a few irresponsible tenants leave houses in a mess or damage things or can't control their animals so the rest of us get told we can't have them either.

I hope you find a solution that works for you. Try our rescue locator as any rescue that won't take oldies without good reason isn't a good rescue to my mind. Some will have waiting lists but will do their best where they can.

I had this issue and to be honest I just kept it quiet until I realised the lady above had two small dogs and so I spoke to the landlord and he admitted he didn't mind as long as carpets were cleaned when we left. They often say no pets because of they allow pets then someone could move in with a pack of huge alsations or labs and destroy the place. Caged pets and small dogs are usually accepted and they sometimes if funny will request a pet deposit. Good luck with it all xx

Excuse me! There is absolutely NO reason why a 'huge pack of alsatiAns (I assume you mean German Shepherds) or labs' would do any damage AT ALL if owned by an intelligent and responsible owner!

Tbf my friend has a chocolate lab and he destroys everything if there's no one in the house to watch him lol. And that's just one dog haha. He's still quite young (about 10/11 months I think) but he really is destructive and she can't get him to stop. Imagine a pack of 6 of dogs like him XD Labs do seem to be more destructive than other breeds. We used to have one who could be quite destructive if he felt like it but it wasn't too often.

It's called 'watching your dog', and using a crate or taking them with you when you leave the property. I can imagine six dogs quite easily - and I can assure you that it is possible to keep them in a house with no more damage than muddy footprints!
My youngest is currently an eight month old lab - so I do know what they are like!

It's hard enough to find properties to rent with dogs as it is, we don't need statements that make it harder on a pet friendly forum!

Excuse you...?! How rude to jump down somebodies throat. I have owned many dogs in the past including "German shepherds" and merely used the word "alsation" because I was quickly typing at work. Unfortunately, a number of dogs especially larger dogs who shed fur are why landlords would be put off, and from experience, I know that SOME owners with a large number of bigger dogs easily let things get out of control. A small lap dog is a big difference to a home owner in comparison to 7 labradors. Whether or not the owner is in control of them is a different matter, to a landlord looking at it from the perspective of the number of dogs and size, it is quite obvious which they would probably be more willing to allow.

It's very easy to "imagine" six labs but with personal experience of a lady who owns 8 and cannot cope, I can assure you that it is a big difference in comparison to one labrador. It depends on the owner and situation. I think you're extremely rude in response to comments on this forum and should think before jumping in on the defensive.

At the end of the day you can be the best owner in the world, but animals will always do what they want XD

I have a lovely cat who insists on scratching the carpet by the stairs, regardless of the scratching posts we've bought her and cat condos. I'm not an irresponsible owner, I just haven't mastered mind control yet...

No matter how well trained an animal is you cannot counteract illness or stubbornness hey?! All it takes is for one poorly doggy or moggy to have a case of the squits and I would be a most disgruntled landlord :))

:)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)) No I can confirm I have most definitely not! I don't think I could even manage half a bottle to myself in all honesty :lol!::flag:

I did it once. Only once XD I literally lost my mind and spent the rest of the evening chasing imaginary ducklings "trying to get them to their mother" according to my friends and their camera, who thought it was just hilarious.

Luckily I didn't disgrace myself (well, more than that ^^^ XD) but I don't think I could have found a toilet on my own in that state :))
