Ahh poor girls! I strongly sympathise right now as I have a miserable cold :( hope the baytril sorts them all out and has them popcorning again soon x

Thankyou! To be honest none of them are acting 'ill' if you get what I mean. I'm glad it's not got to that stage! :)
Well pigglers do hide signs of illness which makes us owners more worried!
I suppose it is because they don't want to upset us, haha.

Haha yes, it must be that! These girls are so cheeky! Winnie was popcorning in the carrier whilst sat in the vets. I have a strange feeling that she if deaf as absolutely nothing startles her, it's like she doesn't hear a thing. She also has blue eyes!

Just back from the vets. They certainly had the once over. Bess and Winnie were as good as gold (although I was surprised as Bess is usually the terror of the group) and Lyza was a madame and wouldn't sit still, she also decided to terrorize the zip on my coat with her teeth.

The little one's measured in at:

Bess 0.39kg
Winnie and Lyza 0.46 kg

My scales broke last week so i'm after a new set this weekend to get the girls weights back on track.

Anyway, they definitely have upper respiratory tract infections but thankfully I have caught them early. So they are all on Baytril for the infection, Metacam for any pain and inflammation (Bess glands where slightly swollen) and a pro-biotic for their gut. They aren't going to be impressed about that!
Sainsburys have the digital kitchen scales on offer for £10 hun like mine, Asda do them too :)
Sorry I wasn't about to reply to this thread today :( I'm very pleased to hear all three are ok :)

Aww poor girls, but I'm glad you cought it soon enough. I'm sure they will get better soon thanks to you.

They weren't impressed at 4.30am this morning having their medicine! Winnie wasn't fussed. Bess was having none of it (we got there eventually) and Lyza just wanted to bite the syringe! Bless them!

The Pro-biotic that I have been given by the vet is Emeprid. Is this a good pro-biotic or am I best to get another?

Hmm how strange. I asked specifically for a pro-biotic and I was perscriped this so I assumed that is what it was. I'll pick up some probiotic tonight instead. Thanks Helen.

Awww bless them, Bess looks so little next to Lyza Ruth :) that third pic down made me smile lyza is laying there if to say....yuk not again :))
For some odd reason I didn't get that tag hun, I always normally do...how strange. And that's odd that you were not given the probiotic you thought you were getting, good job you checked it on here

She was a vet I'd never seen before, and knew a lot about piggies and was so good with them, I'm assuming she misunderstood what I wanted.

Thank you everyone :)

No fights this morning, all the girls took their meds nicely. A bit of coaxing mind but I think they are getting the idea.

Emeprid is a "pro-kinetic" drug.(posh word for gut stimulant) ...I suspect that's how the confusion arose
If they are all eating and pooing normally I would give the vet a quick ring about stopping that particular med.

x

Thanks Pebble. I rang the vet this morning and explained. She's happy for me to stop the emeprid. I also picked up some vetark pro-biotic from pets at home last night :)

Well 5 days into the 7 day course of antibiotics and girls are are looking good. Winnie never showed after signs apart from sneezing, that has gone. Bess no long has gammy eyes or a snotty nose, and nice and clear breathing. Lyza still has a snotty sounding nose but no other symptoms, I'll see what they are like on Monday when they are due their last dose :).

I'm just hoping is has fully cleared by the time their meds are up. If not they are straight back to the vets :)

Well the girls finished their meds on Monday night and I have to say they are all fab :) No more crusty eyes or snotty crusty noses! All bright as a bean :)

I had to ring the vet again yesterday as Lyza has a snotty nose again. Been advised to do another 5 day course of baytril with her as I have baytril here still, and metacam and then if she hasn't cleared up this time around to bring her in and they can check her over again and try another antibiotic. She is fine in herself, bright eyes (and bushy tailed ;)) but has a snotty nose so hopefully it's just the dregs of the infection coming out. She's also back on the probiotic whilst she's on the baytril again.

Thankfully Winnie and Bess seem absolutely fine, but i'm keeping my beedy eye on them!
