This morning she didn't want her veg, this usually alerts us to something being wrong. She was eating hay when we left and her dry food but the only veg she was tempted by was spinach. She had a turn a bit like this a couple of weeks back but on listening to her chest we could hear that she had fluid so she was given a diuretic but also some pain relief as the fluid can press on her organs and make her uncomfortable. As she is a heart pig and on medication we have persmission from the vets to use diuretic as needed. However, this morning we could not hear fluid so it is a mystery at the moment. The OH did however, fund a small lump on the lower part of her abdomen so I will point that out when there.

Hate coming to work and leaving her. Leaving work early for appointment at 5.50.
 
Fingers firmly crossed! It is not quite easy to fit work and vets, especially when you are a repeat customer at the vets... :(
 
Very true, the vet nurses even know my voice on the phone now.

I am pretty sure when many of us call the receptionist is thinking 'oh my, it's that guinea pig woman again....' I know that when I call they are always like 'which one is it this time....' :) Like Wiebke says it's not a place you want to be too well known.

My vets reception staff know me - I don't go for ages then go through phases of being there loads.
I once phoned up and they asked "is that Artie" meaning Alison :))
 
Bit frustrating as he could not find anything wrong, heartbeat is clear, no fluid, not bloated, teeth seem ok (as much as our vets can tell), no damp dishcloth smell to her breath, the lump is most likely a benign mammory tumour that we have to monitor to see if it grows. He really pulled the lump about and she didn't mind, though she was going at my coat sleeve, it wasn't a pain response though, more an f off response. He agreed to keep her on the pain relief and we will go back if no change. She has eaten some spinach tonight which I only tend to feed if she's ill, and is munching on hay ok.

My thoughts are that this is something to do with the mycosis we have had going on in the past as it tends to rear it's ugly head, so if no improvement I will discuss Itrafungol with the vets (though we have a spare bottle here I can use it they agree).

I will test her urine again too as she also has Interstitial cystitis so will see if that shows anything.
 
Tested her wee and there is blood and protein (blood is not visible in the wee) and so think her IC is flaring. Whether that is the cause of her picky eating I don't know yet.
 
She seems brighter this morning and was back to eating the veg she usually eats - cucumber and celery. She also got straight up when I filled their dry food and has been eating lots of hay. I will be speaking to my friend who runs the clinics over the next few days about getting her scanned at the next one and for now we will keep her on the Metacam. Any deterioration before clinic though and I will get the local vets to scan her.
 
Maddie has been on Septrin for the last few days and I tested her wee last night and there was high blood (though not visible in the wee), protein etc so she is booked in for a scan on Saturday to rule out stones. It is being done at the vets where piggy clinic is as the vet there is a fantastic bladder surgeon. The only thing is that she is a heart pig so should not really be going under an anaesthetic. I need to speak to my friend who works there about options going forward if a stone is shown on the scan.

Am hoping it is a flare of her IC, which will be a management issue. She did have some forbidden food when poorly a week or so ago with heart related fluid, as it was the only thing she would eat so that may have triggered it. She is ok pain wise at the mo as am keeping her on Metacam.

Ok back from the vets, she has been partially scanned but not her bladder as she would not stay still, feisty madam. He did however find a huge ovarian cyst which has been drained and if it refills we will look into her being spayed. She seems comfortable at the moment and is sleeping. The vet thought it is her cystitis flaring which I am inclined to agree with as her symptoms have subsided over the past few days.
