OH piggy ban!

OH is keeping an eye on secret plans.

Spending the weekend moaning about having too many pigs, it's all too much work in the sunshine in the middle of July when you're off work for 6 weeks, and begging OH to do it all for you is not the best way to set up a pitch for a new piggie.

I overheard my OH telling his family that we were perhaps getting too many at a family bbq last weekend. They're not animal lovers and they think I'm a bit odd.

They asked how many? and he replied " she's got 8 now"

How wrong he is, poor deluded man. Only 5 short.:)):)) With plans for another boy sometime soon. Then I'm at my limit for pets, but will have room for 3 pairs of fosters.

What the eye's can't see the heart can't grieve over.:p

This is so what I've gone through with my family and getting a 6th cat!
Bet you won't want to let the fosters leave you!

This would be my OH! Hello darling :)p nice to see you are keeping up to date on the piggy news :)) . I may have had a little moan, however I love my piggies and one more would not be anymore work ;)

Honestly one more is not anymore work than what you've already got (I think thats how I managed to get up to 16 guinea-pigs last year :)) )

You could always say,

" I came home and look what I found in a box on the doorstep"

It's one of my back up plans, should OH ever learn how to count.

my OH would not let me get any more when we had two guinea pig and had 2 dogs at the time - now we have 3 dogs, 3 fish, adopted cat, chinchilla and 13 guinea pigs!

Please keep adding comments. This has to be the best thread ever!

I'm single and 42 so you'd think this wouldn't be a problem. But I hate having to 'fess to my parents about new additions to my household!

Oh dear - this made me laugh out loud at work...!

You're all speaking my language. Although I recently discovered the joy of foster, which is great as it means more piggies that I'm helping and even mini pigs from time to time x) with out actually increasing my 'resident' head count. Plus my OH can hardly argue with the good that fostering does, all the poor neglected piggies... Only problem is giving them up when they're ready to move on... :(

Hello Mr Romily
It is nice to see you are checking up on your wife. :))
Will you be coming to the get together in November? My hubby has agreed to come, but i'm sure he would be keen to commiserate with other hard-done by guinea pig dads. do you foster for Becklen too?

hope you have fun lurking on here.
Becca

p.s. i'm sure my OH would encourage you to let Charlotte sweat it out for a bit longer - that is what he is doing to me about a wife for one of our boarsgrrrr

I know how you feel, my hubby said to me no more pets!

I am currently getting two sows and hubby said no! but after some persuasion he said just two! but we will seerolleyes

btw he also said this about the dog, cat and hamsters! he gives up now because I go ahead anyway lol I don't stop him buying endless amounts of blu ray disks or box sets of red dwarf so what right has he to stop my hobbies:)

I think if you love someone you have to let them be happy

LOL OMG please if my OH decides to check up on me here, I will deny everything. rolleyes

I don't have secret plans I just omit detail sometimes.

we live just around the corner from my o/h's parents. His dad thinks we have 9 piggies - the other 4 haven't been noticed :)p

I'm not sure whether we will tell my family about the new one straightaway... they are thinking that I'm completley bonkers, anyway!

I was rather worried the last time we went up to see my elderly mother-in-law as she wanted to know exactly how many piggies I have got since we had smuggled in Ffowlyn right under her nose together with Ffion cack in March, but never introduced her officially. But MIL's reaction to my "I have nine and you have seen them all!" was only: "Oh, I thought you had more!" What an anticlimax! To her, anything red and white is "Llewelyn" anyway! :))

PS: Hub has his model railway and I'm not saying anything about that...

Must admit I have found it difficult telling my Mum about any new additions to our lot. She always says don't get anymore you haven't got room even if I haven't even mentioned them and that kind of makes me anxious about telling her :(

my o/h said i could not have basil but i braught him home anyways 2 days later his heart soon warmed too him when he saw the piece missing out of his ear but it totaly melted when a month later he was very ill with pneumonia. hes always secretly talking to him and stroking him.
p.s he has still said NO MORE PETS we have 2 rabbits 2 degus 3 guineapigs 1 hamster and 1 tortiose who me O/H adopted for me at christmas. i think alot of it is he does get realy upset when we loose a pet too rainbow bridge especialy whe we lost 2 rabbits last year in 3 months of each other. he loved lola bun but the fox took her and i think he secretly blames his self although there was nothing he could have done. (she was a daddys girl thats for sure )he even cried bless him and he hasnt done that since our last baby was born :) he even made plans to catch the fox and told every one he saw bless him xx

Gary if you think Charlotte has quite a lot - wait til November when you see what I have in my house ! Honestly, you will soon realise she really hasn't got any at all. ha ha.

My parents are always rolling their eyes and our friends refer to our house as the zoo! I keep chanting about the qualities of piggies but they are all dubious! Think I might go with the need to rescue a skinny and that she is here on long term foster!

Good idea! ;)

You could always have some "permanent fosters"....

I have a permanent boarder (Nooshi) as well as my 15 and Peggy, to be fair I don't consider Nooshi to be totally mine but she is likely to stay here for life as she needs particular medical care.

My dad didn't complain at that, although TBH he just comes in my room every few months and says "Right, how many now?". I've taken on almost all my pigs without running it by my dad, have to run it by my mum but she's softer than me. ;) :))

I just can't let him say no! This is so frustrating, think I will have to bite the bullet and accept that he will no longer help with the piggies and that I will be little miss Piggy independant!

I really shouldn't encourage this but I have an idea about how you can sneak in a skinny pig ...

Everytime you give one of your longer haired pigs a trim, keep the hair. When you have a whole pig's worth of hair, get a skinny pig. Put the skinny pig in the cage with all the hair you have been saving and temporarily hide one of the other piggies. Now call in OH and say that all of the hair has fallen off one of the piggies. Later just slip the other pig back in and OH won't notice as he has already seen that pig.
