I noticed Abbey was not well yesterday, she is housed with Todd and Angel and Bella, used to be Rosemary and Parsley, Abbey is a rescue sow i adopted off Logiebear well yesterday she had a slight watery eye but was eating, drinking just seemed a little quiet, and ive nipped in today and she was the same, well ive went in 1 hour ago and she was just sitting there and even came * to me which isnt like her, i picked her up to listen to her breathing and she has a hoot when she breathes, not runny eyes now not nose discharge and no weightloss still pooping, but its clear she has been sitting in the same place as she has poops under where she was sitting, not runny poop, but she is clearly not herself, i think she may have a chest infection so i have started her on Baytril, metacam...

I am also wondering if she has some type of heart problem as the signs she is showing is not classic to the chest problems ive seen in guineas before...

Her chest isnt crackly or noisey a art from the Hoot on breathing out.
She also seems to have some pain in her tummy left side, but tummy is soft.:{

I'm just unsure on what exactly it could be?/

has anyone seen this before or have ideas on what it could be?

awww so sorry to hear this, i really hobe Abbey is ok. I had a piggy that had pneumonia but the vet told me she could have an underlying heart problem and she said she could tell by the sack underneath the chin area, i didnt really understand as i was traumatised at the time, but someone on here will be able to tell you more.

Sending vibes for your princess xx

vibes needed i so hope she will be ok i know i shouldnt have fav guineas but she is defo special along with whiskers my 5yr old sow i would be heart broken if i loose her/them as i would with all of them8...8...8...

i love abbey guineas and she is soooo pretty and has the loveliest nature8...

just been reading up on guinea lynx regarding heart issues, and Abbey does have a lot of the signs..

not walking away from me when i approach her.

hooting...

slightly over weightrolleyes but not a lot...

very laid back-which she as always been.

going see how she is on baytril as it sez it can treat the symptons but once baytril is stopped the symptoms return this is another heart issue signs. :(

i will then ask the vet do an x-ray or ultra sound scan and poss start on heart meds if her heart is slightly enlarged x

Heart or respiratory.....if breathing is compromised and fluid is somewhere....(you vet should be able to determine this) ....furosemaide diuretic might be the best way to go to "manage the current clinical symptoms"....taking into account antibioitics for microbial cause...and metacam for pain/anti inflammatory.

At least then you are giving you and your vet the time to find out what's really wrong......

Stay strong Hun

Abbey is not well at all, its only matter of time before she goes to rainbow bridge:( she also hs bloat now too:( she is on pain meds, baytril, a vibrating cushion 20 mins every 2 hours, gripe water and windeze tablets, syringe fluids she is also not eating now, some gas has come out of her this morning :(

How is she? Its not necessarily the end. My girl got through bloat the other night, have you tried infacol? I was recommended this for Tallulah when she had bloat and gave her 1ml (although can give up to 3ml) every 3 hours, this helped alot. She too was not drinking or eating or pooping. I have a heart pig and frusomide helped wonders.

she is not good at all her breathing is very bad and she is in a lot of pain I'm trying to make her comfy as poss, I'm taking her the vets 2moz if she is still with us, either to have her PTS or see if they can put a tap in her to draw the gas out of her tummy if this is what it is!

I'm not so sure anything will really help her now she has just gone down hill sooo fast, 3 days ago she was running around the cage with her friends and now this, i put her back in with her friends tonight and she went into her igloo and i lifted it up and bella was sitting next to her8... have to say all the guineas with her are very concerned about her..

she has been having gripe water, windeze, metoclopramide, baytril, metacam. she has also been on the vibrating pillows a few times today for 20 mins each time, along with syringe fluids and a bit of liquid pellets, she is not wanting to eat though and when she is syringe fed it plays havoc with her breathing, she does also have a blue tinge to her lips which makes me think it maybe all heart related, ive never heard a guinea cry like she has today, and its just not nice at all.

in the morning i will take 4 children in a taxi and take her the vets as i feel i have done everything i can for her myself and i just cant see her suffer anymore8...8...8...

Claire Hun......You HAVE done everything you can for Abbey - I pray she will be here tomorrow but as you say it;s not looking good....and the suddeness of her deterioration does not make it any easier for you

Hugs
x

Sadly I had to make a sudden shocking decision for Beechie last week when he suffered similar probs.......

Will be keeping you all in my thoughts....keep strong Hun...you are doing the best you can.....and fingers and paws are all crossed here that Abbey manages to "turn that corner"

xxxxxx

thanks all Abbey seemed a little brighter this morning but i took her the vets anyway and when i took her out of her carrier she had passed away8... the vets said she had a massive lump deap in her tummy, poss a tummor8...

she really was a special guinea pig and i will miss her soooo very much x

i have put her back in with her hubby and friends they were all sniffing her then started to eat her ears so i have taken her out8... this really upset me8... and I'm wondering if they were trying to wake her up?/ as they were washing her too8...
