My beautiful Ozzy who has only just lost his other half (both boys but they were so close, always together, like a guinea pig with two heads) has just been out for cuddles. When I picked him up he felt so skinny, not his normal weight at all. So I popped him on the scales and he is a tiny 710g! He has lost 250g since Piccolo passed! He was always quite petite but this is ridiculous!

I am waiting to hear if I can get him to the vets today, fingers crossed. I simply can't lose another of my piggies, it will destroy me.

I can feel his spine. I am so upset. I need HEAPS of healing vibes for my special boy, he has simply pined for his brother and it seems that he is dying of a broken heart.

I really need some support...help!

Oh gosh I am really sorry to hear this. I really hope everything is okay with him. Poor baby sounds like the grief has hit him hard. :(

Really sorry to hear this. Has he not been eating? Let us know how you get on at the vets. x x

Oh no! Poor little thing. This happened to me with Lilly. While I was waiting to get her another friend I had to syringe feed her. But she is fine now so fingers crossed he is just lonely. Lots of healing vibes sent your way! xxxxx

Well, while waiting for the vet to ring back with an appointment, I spoke to Jo at Milhaven and she rang HER vet straight away and booked an emergency appointment for Ozzy, as a Milhaven piggy. I went straight over and the vet has had a good look at my little guy.

She said there is nothing obvious, he is very thin and obviously isn't himself, but his teeth are fine so the weight loss isn't a dental problem. He hasn't got any respiratory issues.

Joanne has given me some critical care and I have syringe fed him which he ate readily. In fact he was 'pulling' on the syringe! I will continue to syringe feed him tonight and I have added a snuggle sack to his cage so he has somewhere warmer to go to. Joanne has also decided to let me bring home one of the little baby boys to keep Ozzy company and hopefully this will perk him up. I will be picking the baby up shortly. Thank you Jo for all your help and advice, you are an angel.

I am NOT giving up on my Ozzy without one heck of a fight!

Aww thanks for letting us know. Poor Ozzy I am sure he will start picking up soon and it is good that he wants to eat now :) Another thing you could try to get him eating is some some bran, hot water, porridge and some grated carrots :aJFBQ00147070110B:. Mine love it when they are sick or it is cold because it warms them up :) Hope that helps and hope he feels better soon! xxxxx

Fingers firmly crossed that syringe feeding and a new friend will perk Ozzy up again!

I'm so sorry to hear that he's lost so much weight. I literally just posted on your thread about Piccolo - thinking of you. Hope he perks up soon and puts on some weight. Sending lots of healing vibes and hugs.

I have my fingers crossed for you.. it's awful when they seem to 'disappear' before your eyes, without any explanation.. sounds like he's pining for his cage mate, have you tried him with a cuddly toy for now? Until you find him a new friend? Worked when Biscuit lost his playmate x

I have just got home from work and syringe fed Ozzy again. He has eaten some critical care and a little bit of spinach.

I have put one of the babies from Milhaven in with him...I foster for Jo anyway, so she knows the baby will be looked after. It is little 'Gibson' from the rescue and rehome section thread. If things go ok I will be needing a lovely new name for the little guy.

Ozzy has shown a little bit of interest, he isn't moving around much but they had a 'face to face' moment to say hello. I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed for Ozzy, I really am.

I'll keep you all updated and thank you for your healing vibes...lets hope they work! :)

Well, things seem to have gone ok overnight. The cucumber and leaves have all been eaten- not sure who by because Joanne said the babies eat EVERYTHING!

The boys are both snuggled up together in the wooden hut, which is a miracle in itself because that is where Piccolo went to cross the bridge and Ozzy hasn't been near it since.

The huge hay pile has gone down a bit, and is messed up...maybe that's the baby playing zoomies though.

Ozzy is still very quiet, I will syringe feed him again this morning I think, just to make sure. So I suppose this is a waiting game to see if things improve. I'm really hoping that having the little one to cuddle up with and watch will give Ozzy a new purpose in life. :)

Just been in the kitchen to syringe feed Ozzy and he is at at his food bowl tucking in! After I'd yelped with glee, I spoke softly to him and told him that he had to stay strong because the baby is relying on him. And I told him not to be naughty and teach the baby bad things!

Anyway, I have decided to call the little one Ezra, which is a biblical name meaning 'helper'. I think Ozzy and Ezra has a certain ring to it!

I will keep posting as things develop and of course, I will get my camera out in the near future to show you all just how beautiful little Ezra is!

Also, I would just like to say the biggest thank you to Joanne at Milhaven for possibly saving Ozzy's life. You got me to the vets so quickly, and it was your advice of syringe feeding and giving him a little baby friend that has really helped him. I will be sending a donation to your rescue and buying something nice for all the Milhaven piggies...especially all the little guys and girls that Ezra was with. x>>

Rescues help in so many ways, not just being angels and taking in unwanted and neglected piggies, but also by offering amazing support for all piggy parents. Once again, I find myself in awe of your kindness. Thank you!

I'm so glad Ozzy has picked up and hurrah for Ezra and Joanne! I hope he continues to improve and can't wait to see some pictures :)

So glad to hear that Ozzy has perked up and they are both getting on well. Ezra is a beautiful name, I love the meaning too - it definitely fits!

Oy my goodness what a worry! I read that they can become severly depressed when they lose a friend/brother - my pigboys were twins & completely joined at the hip I was devastated to lose one earlier this year. It left my little Rodney alone & while he did manage quite well, he was starting to get a bit picky with his food & I feel like had I left it much longer to get him a new friend he would have become ill. Luckily 9 month old Billy has proved to be good company for him & they are living together nicely.

You did a great thing - I am so glad he is tucking in to his food. I did find when I was hand feeding my little man he liked oats mixed in water & baby food. Anything to try bulk them up! Altho your feela sounds like he is gonna be just fine. Bless him x

Ezra is becoming more confident, he is currently trying to chase Ozzy around the cage. I say trying, because Ozzy is slinking to his bed and Ezra is spinning all around him! :))

Ozzy is so patient, he just looks at the little guy as if to say 'what ARE you doing?'

They have been eating at the food bowl together, sleeping together, Ezra follows Ozzy around everywhere. And more amazingly, Ozzy popcorned (just once) for the first time in a long while. :)

We have quite a way to go yet, but I am going to weigh Ozzy again later and see if he has lost anymore weight. He is eating more now so fingers crossed he has turned the corner.

Thank you Ezra for being the amazing 'helper' :)
