Hi,

Two weeks after loosing Rascal, I had to run Oreo to the vets last night as he wasn't himself, sat in the corner and limping around. After what happened with Rascal, I thought it better to be over cautious.

Anyway, vet said he was alright and gave him a shot of anti-inflammatory and sent us on our way.

My daughter has arrived today and noticed that he has a sore under his belly, which I can't believe the vet didn't spot and this has raised a couple of questions.

Firstly, is Oreo actually a boy as we thought, I've put a picture below, so if some more experienced owners could confirm, I would appreciate it, as Rascal was definitely a boy, so that has got alarm bells ringing a little.

Also, what's best for the sore? I've been bathing it with boiled water. Should I head back to the vets with him, or should it heal on it's own?

Thanks for any advice

I wouldnt know for sure but looks kind of like a girl to me? I only say so bc my boys have obvious balls lol. Then again I'm not holding your oreo so its hard to tell. Also, I'm very new to guinea pigs.

I know someone will be round soon to help.

Ouch that looks sore. :( I am shocked the vet did not spot that. Maybe you should change vets as that is a big thing not to notice. Surely Oreo would have had babies by now if she was a girl? I hope somebody can come along and sex him correctly for you. If you gently press the area and he is a boy his thing should pop out. So he is limping and the vet did not see anything on his leg? Maybe the jab will help with the pain. Is he walking okay now? I think you should seek another opinion as your vet did not sound very helpful.

Thanks piggyfan. Oreo has a lot more life today than yesterday, so maybe the jab helped.

One thing that we have noticed is that he/she has been chewing a lot all of a sudden, since the limping/illness started, not sure what that means.

We didn't want to press on the stomach area, especially with the sore being there, but maybe we'll see how Oreo is tomorrow and maybe try that.

I'm no expert and i dont no the age of your piggy but that photo of the genital area looks nothing like my dittos and he is all man :-D

How is oreo today?

Oreo seems a lot happier today, thanks for asking. The sore seems to be healing nicely. Been out in his run today for a bounce around, so a happy piggie. :)

Thanks Lil-Ninnibig, the gender bit is a little confusing. Obviously we got Oreo and Rascal as a pair of males from Pets at Home and they were part of a larger group of males, so if Oreo turns out to be female, it would be a surprise all around. I think Oreo is around 3-4 months old as they weren't sure of his age when purchased and we've had him 7-8 weeks now.

Thanks Glynis.

Now Oreo's in a lot better spirit, I think my daughter and I need to follow that link to the letter to better determine the sex.
