Oscar is bleeding...

Poor Oscar.. Anymore blood today? Treacle has cystitis flare up last week a day of metacam and blood gone again and she's back to normal. Sending Oscar some healing vibes x

If infection and stones are ruled out, I'd highly recommend trying cystaid - worked wonders for Big Dave. He's on it daily now, it promotes the health of the bladder lining, and we've been squeak free for a while now!

Cystease is great, and worth speaking to your vet about. We were recommend this by a lady who runs a clinic down south in conjunction with a vet. Our girls are on slightly larger doses than are normally given, but our cavy savy vet says this won't be an issue and we have had no upset poos from it. Obviously start with half a capsule a day as if this dose helps there is no point in increasing it higher.
Cookie is on 2 capsules a day and it has decreased her squeaking dramatically, Treacle is on 1 capsule a day.

It's basically just glucosamine and is quite safe! BD is on 1 capsule daily, I've not tried reducing it yet. I'd say it's probably best to start higher for a while (maybe 1 capsule daily for a week) and then reduce down to a maintenance level if it helps. Very pleased with how BD is doing on it :)

Ditto the Cystaid/Cystease. Jerry has half a capsule of Cystaid a day (plus a daily dose of Metacam and Dibenyline) to help with his bladder sludge. When it flares up and I notice blood in his urine we increase the Cystaid to a full capsule for 2 weeks, then reduce it down again.

blimey this blood in urine is so common, heres me freaking out and everyone has it all the time, think i need to take a chill pill

No, it makes me panic every time I see it. Treacle will have blood every now and then bu it always clears up after metcam. Cookie never has it she just squeaks. x

do you have it like oscars or just slight blood? All i have seen this time is the edge of a wee tinged with blood if you know what i mean

It's wee tinged with blood. Not blood, blood if that makes sense...

Would you say oscars was blood blood from that first piccy?

Do you think they will want to see oscar again or should i just ring and explain what has happened?

I would give your vet a ring and see what they say. With Eliza, I was able to take a sample in weekly instead of having to take her all the time. However, if you are worried about stones, I would request an X-ray x

I often call my vet to discuss my pig's conditions, sometimes I then have to take them in other times I don't. If Oscar hasn't had an Xray yet, I would recommend getting him one now. If anything it will give you peace of mind.

Sadly blood in the urine is very common in guinea pig's, and it doesn't ever appear to be easily solved. x

Thanks, and yes i would feel happier having an xray. Do they use something when they give an xray?

I'd have an X-ray done, it rules stones out and can give you peace of mind.
Rosie our vet blocks them in on the plate so they can't run off.. Or if they are very troublesome will give a whiff of gas.

I must remember to ask if they tested his sample from last time. I did a dip test last night and took a piccy of the results so maybe i will show them that too.

Thank you all so much for all your advice etc, i find it really mind blowing

It depends on the pig, if it's my Fred he needs a GA he's far to wild. Fred tends to rely on his flight response, rather than the rabbit in headlights.

so, we have Septrin! His wee sample was cloudy/clear before i went not a sign of blood! She felt round his bladder etc but still couldnt feel anything.

I asked about and xray and she said they are fully booked all week so it would be next week anyway, so to take the Septrin and get started on it and book xray next week if i want to. Got an estimate for it, £120 eek.

For some strange reason they told me how much i had spent there in the last six years, just short of £2000.00, dont know if thats good or not but interesting if nothing else

Oscar seems to be better after having the Septrin, i have checked his wee tonight on a white towel, it was lovely and clear, couldnt see a thing.

How often should i check it do you all think? Do i need to or am i being para?

That's really good news :)

I check Jerry's wee once a week because of his bladder issues.

So pleased for you and Oscar! Well done little man! x

So good that his wee is looking better :). I think it's a good idea to keep checking, after all it's non-invasive & is giving you useful information so there's no reason not to keep an eye on his wee. It's just like weekly weighing really.

Keep on getting well Oscar x
