Hi all, my husband was in p@h yesterday and could not see any GP's for sale. They have not had up for sale for a while so David asked a member of staff it they had ( hopefully) stopped selling them. Seemingly they sell them through an adoption service now and a charity gets the money, there is a shortage of piggies just now, according to the girl who served my husband. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I was in a P@H store 2 weeks ago and they were selling piggies in pairs or groups of 4. I did speak to a member of staff about issues with a group of 4 sold to anyone but an experienced keeper but got nowhere... :mal:

They never learn do they. I was very surprised at what the assistant said to my hubby, I wonder if they are spinning a yarn.

There's a new store In Glasgow that no longer sells piggies or rabbits from breeders. All their animals are adoption only from the support adoption for pets charity. I've also heard of a store down south who have cats From the cat protection society!

I'm pretty sure it's the drumchapel store but I could be wrong. I'm not sure how it works but I got my hamster Bella through the adoption centre. Her previous owners had contacted thr charity to surrender her as they didn't like her personality so she was handed into the linwood store. The member of staff told me they had another 12 hamsters all waiting to be adopted in the backroom. It's so sad to hear of all these poor animals being unwanted, I wish i could have take them all.

Ohhhhhh..... So that's where all the pigs have gone!

My p@h had two sections where the pigs were kept and two for the rabbits, I went in and noticed that the rabbits had 3 sections now and the pigs had gone down to one section with very few pigs left! So this could explain where they have all disppeared too!:hmm:

There were still lots of guinea pigs in my local store when I was in on Friday.

If it is a very new policy, then the various branches are likely to roll it out slowly. They would need to sell any existing piggies first. There is also the issue that not all branches are equal in quality and knowledge. P@h may have started this as a tester in selected branches first.

it would be great if p@h would no longer just throw more piggies on the market that end up unwanted within weeks or months.

We where in pets at home yesterday and they only had a few on one side, the other side was cleaned and emptied... Perhaps they are starting it there too.

wow! I think if they all did this it would be a good move as then I would have no problem giving them my business over other shops that stock animals. fingers crossed!

I was in the Kilmarnock PAH today. I never looked at the guinea pigs for sale. However there were 6 guinea pigs in the adoptions bit. ;( 2x boar pairs and a sow pair. ;( also there were 2 pairs of rabbits looking for a home. It makes me so sad. All these unwanted pets.

I've been in two p@h stores this week, one had no pigs and another only 2.

I was at P@H in morecambe on Monday and there were no piggies there - just lots of rabbits. Must admit I was quite pleased.

In my local one there haven't been any girls for a long time. There's two boars that have been there for ages..

I will check out our local one when I am up and about.

I'm the same, went into Lichfield, Staffordshire today, lots and lots of new babies in their. I haven't checked out Tamworth yet.

I went to the Tamworth store earlier in the week and there were young piggies for sale. Good point made in a previous post, a very new/trial policy may take a while to roll out to all stores so time will tell.

There were half a dozen split over 2 cages in my local PAH today and none in the adoption section. Lots of bunnies though.
