Does everyone already know that P@H sell GUINEA PIG BALLS ! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

I only noticed about a week ago :'( its sooo sad - it clearly was a large colourful excersise ball with a picture of a guinea pig on the front saying for guineapigs :-\

Well what we going to do about it? :)

I'm going to email them, the more that do the better. [email protected]

I noticed that they are updating their website, I do hope they have an online shop would save me a trip for the nuggets!

Can't Defra get involved in the sale of unsafe pet products?

I'm not sure to be honest but thanks for the link ill email them now O0

P@H has always sold large exercise balls. The only difference is that the manufacturer has put a picture of a piggy on the front giving the impression they are safe to use.
Our store displays signs stating that this product should not be used for piggies due to the risk of spinal damage.
You need to be emailing the manfacturer of them as they are the ones promoting using them for piggies.

This is the reason why the internet shops also put "suitable for piggies" they just follow the manufacturers recommendations :(

My P@H sells them too, manufactured as for guinea pigs. I told a member of staff, and they were of the opinion that if it says guinea pig on the packaging, it must be for a guinea pig, as the manufacturers would know more than a customer. I have emailed them about this before, and got no reply, but I will do it again if everyone is going to do it. they may take more notice of mass emails.

well I have had a reply to my email.

Good Morning

Further to your e mail; the exercise balls in question are large hamster and Rat exercise balls and not recommended or sold for Guinea Pigs. However, we are aware that the suppliers placed a misleading picture of a guinea pig on the packaging and our buyer has addressed this issue. All new stock will now be produced minus pictures of Guinea Pigs and we are endeavouring to have the packaging changed on the existing stock as soon as possible.

We will also re iterate to all of our stores that exercise balls are not suitable for Guinea pigs.

Kind Regards

Nice one guys. O0

In their advice book given out with starter packs, those balls are recommended for guineas to push around.

I got one too last night but wasnt on ::)

You shouldn't be surpirsed...clearly they have received a lot of complaints if they have a standard reply :-\

At least they are changing though, can't ask much more than that

I haven't had a reply either. But then I think they probably have had loads of complaints in the past 24 hours, they are probably thinking what is going on! :D

Lol, exactly! Why bother writing out a new reply for every separate email ;D That would be madness.

That's pretty impressive it's being changed though - I guess that due to the sheer size of P@H they must have the power to be able to make demands of the manufacturers...there aren't many other pet shops that would be able to get things like that changed.

Though if my memory serves me correctly, the actual ticketing on the shelf below the product states 'Rat Ball' so hopefully would reduce any confusion...but then again, it was a long time ago that I saw it!

Somebody on here mentioned that their local P@H displays a sign near the balls stating that they are not suitable for guinea pigs. I think that is great! I suggested in my email that they do that in every store as a temporary measure while the packaging gets sorted. Although, my store already has the new balls without the picture of the guinea pig, but the wording on the box still says that they are suitable for guinea pigs.

Perhaps it would be an idea to also contact the manufacturer directly? It would cut out 'the middle-man' so to speak, and maybe they might give some sort of response as to *why* they think a guinea pig could go in one ::)

Sounds like a good idea.

The first person to go to P@H should find out who the manufacturer is by looking at the box. Unless we can find out online?

yep the one i saw said for guinea pigs too otherwise i wouldnt of made this post :-\

I have had a very interesting reply from P@H, and I am inpressed! I have posted it in a new thread.

I'm going to get on to the manufacturers now.
