Pebble is off to the vets

Can anyone recommend another type of critical care? Thanks
None of ours like Critical Care but Emeraid Sustain is always accepted.

I find mushing up their normal nuggets, adding probiotic and syringe feeding that is much better accepted and very much cheaper.

I also say this. All my boys has accepted critical care, but not all of them loved it. When the appetite is low I always have some mushed pellets in the mix. Everything your pig normally eats and likes can top the critical care too. Some juice from a cucumber, melon or some crushed parsley.

Come on now Pebbles! You can do this

I know it sounds like a bit of a faff, but could you try hand feeding him individual strands of hay, maybe mixing it up with 1 blade of grass and 1 or 2 strands of hay in your fingers at once?
I'm guessing soft poops with grass is better than not eating for his teeth and digestive system? @furryfriends (TEAS)

All of mine have hated CC, I've only ever had success with Supreme Recovery Plus.
I have a couple of old sachets here, (think they're past the best before date, but still fibre) I could send to you if any help.
Get admins to send me your address if u'd like to try them?

C'mon Pebble we're all here with fingers & paws crossed with a truckload of healing vibes coming your way too. 💞

I’ve bought some of the papaya flavour critical care, but so far we haven’t needed to open it 🤞
Mushed up nuggets were always more popular here than the aniseed flavour.

Would poop soup be any help (more specific bacteria maybe), if he hasn’t had his normal diet in a while?
And I had this newsletter thingy from the Little Hay Co yesterday, suggesting that their silky soft hay is less difficult to eat

Hugs, and licks from Lili, Minx and Bandit

I used to use Science Selective Recovery Food with mine. At first I found it went down more easily if i flavoured it with a little apple juice, but after a while they ate it happily without the juice.
You can get it in bigger bags too which is good if they are on it longer term.

Sending more healing vibes to Pebble 💓

Thanks everyone. He’s munching away on his nuggets at the moment and a little veg. He’s gone off the grass today anyway. 🙄
Ah Pebble …what are you doing …worrying your slave and the rest of the forum …
Good you’re eating those pellets …..next dish hay, hay, hay please 🥰

Thanks Andrea. You’re so kind. I’ve asked my daughter to order two different types for me. Hopefully they will do the trick. ❤️

My word @weepweeps what an emotional rollercoaster you're on.
You are doing a fabulous job try to stay strong 💐
Just tried to feed him again. He doesn’t want CC. He doesn’t want grass.

He did eat about 5ml of mushed pellets.
Ate some mushed nuggets with banana.
I gave him some green beans, cucumber, coriander, pepper and 4 pea flakes. He’s munching away on that.

I figure that if he doesn’t make it at least he’s got all his favourite food in his belly. 😢

Hopefully tomorrow the other CC will arrive and by some miracle he will love it and eat it no problem. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Best of luck for everything overnight. When Ozzy struggled to eat, life felt impossible and very emotional. My heart goes out to you and pebble, you got this 💖 Pebble is very lucky to have someone who loves him so much 🤗

Glad he’s got an appetite for the nuggets and veg, that is definitely better than not being interested in anything. Fingers crossed hay will be next. Well done for everything you are doing, it's not easy.

Keeping everything crossed for him and you. It’s just exhausting when they’re poorly and having a hard time eating ❤️

Just caught up with Pebble’s week.
What an emotional rollercoaster you’re having.
Mine have all loved Oxbow aniseed flavour CC to the extent that Ruth literally pulled the syringe out of Micah’s mouth and I ended up having to make her a syringe as well.

Sending love and hugs 🤗

It's always terrible when the things they liked at one feeding are not touched at the next.
I know this situation only too well.
All fingers and paws crossed that Pebbles appetite will get stronger.
Mine never liked CC either. (Only the healthy siblings who didn't need it.)

Just caught up! Golly what a time you’re having. I have absolutely no idea if ready grass is any good for Pebbles - it is not recommended for pigs with bladder issues but Stan would lliteeslly sell his soul for it and maybe this would start him off - but I’m sure an expert would advise. Maybe a small amount - I got mine on Amazon but when I found out it was not for pigs with bladder issues I cleared out everything and donated it all to Lily at Mandy’s rescue to share out with the rescue pigs otherwise I’d have sent you some with pleasure. I have Timothy, Cotswold sweet and meadow and oat (although the last is literally just an occasional piece and I’ll happily send you some if you think it would help. Would oats be appealing to him ? The Reacue before when squirrel was ill suggested a few porridge oats which you can soften with water or oat milk or dry but again I could be wrong !

Do you think he’s in pain which is stopping him eating ? - the tramadol that Stan has has been amazing (on top of Metacam)

It’s so stressful when they won’t eat! If it were down to collective thoughts he would be eating for 10 pigs !

Stan still doing well although he has sore back feet from urine - that’s with the cuddle sacks changed twice a day and the mats changed as soon as they are peed on and the hay boxes changed twice. I’ve bathed them and put barrier cream on. He doesn’t seem over bothered but he’s still on a lot of pain relief and antibiotic

You’re strong I know you are but we are all standing shoulder to shoulder as you fight to get your boy well x

I wish I had a magic wand to just make him better 😞
You are doing all you can just keep trying different combinations until the other CC arrives 🤞

You're doing a wonderful job, it's such a roller coaster when they're ill. Come on Pebble eat your CC, veggies and hay. Hugs to you for having such a stressful time.

Thank you ❤️

I’m going out today to get some redigrass.

He keeps making the “choking face” where he’s trying to clear his throat. That might just be because he hasn’t chewed his food enough and he’s getting it back into his mouth to chew it again or maybe he has a throat issue?

He doesn’t look in pain when he’s eating. Since the op he’s chewing much better and quicker.

So pleased Stan is doing well.

Let’s see what today brings.
