Pebbles has a lump :(

Sounds identical to Africas 'neck' lump. I haven't even bothered with the vet, it doesn't hurt, isn't attached and is hard marblish size too, not attached. It hasn't grown and he's had it at least a month now. He hasn't changed behaviour or habit either. Do what you think best, but think twice about ops of course, if it can be lived with then its best too =] I just check Africa every now and again to make sure it hasn't grown.

It is her gland that is enlarged, so she being treated for an infection, if it doesn't go down she will be back next week and the vet says they will try for a sample but hopefully it will be fine and will go back to normal size.

Well that doesn't sound too serious thank goodness, hopefully it will go down quickly.

Fingers crossed...

Elle when you gave probiotics did you put it on the veg?

Yes I did, made it up in a wee bowl then poured it all over the top. Tried to syringe the first time but they hated it and I figured after the thermometer up their bum :x they'd been through enough for one day. Just pour over the top give a wee stir through and it coats quite well so it all goes in.

Yes Pebbles didn't like that either and she was not for co-operating, you should have seen the bites you was sending out when we were trying to see her teeth!

Well mine were the same, but she said it was good to see the teeth in action! Think she wasn't being entirely serious :(|)

I found that mine liked the taste of probiotic and so i don't have to give them as much i double up the concentration which by furby's reckoning makes it tastier! glad it is nothing more sinister!

Glad that is doesn't seem to be anything serious. Ive got my fingers crossed that it will go down once you start the baytril. :)

Good to hear that you've got something of a diagnosis, fingers crossed the Baytril does the trick!

sending healing loves and wheeeeeeeeks from us all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Glad the vet has diagnosed and it's something that will go down.

How's she taking the baytril?

Not very well, and to be fair the vet doesn't know if it will have any effect, they never gave me enough baytril which is baffling going back today... for more, they gave me like a drop.

Sending my best wishes to Pebbles. I hope that the baytril works!

Back from the vet which is ment to be cavy savy... (that's a joke)! They aren't in the slightest. I now have more baytril they were very appolgetic but also mentioned how they don't see many gp's, baffling really I was under the impression they did.

I have spent my morning phoning all the vets, I have found a cavy savy vet, deals with exoctics and gp's are a regular occurence, I am taking her for a second opinion, I am wondering if it is the lymph nobe atall.. and maybe just a beign cyst.

I am continuing treatment in the meantime to see if it makes any difference but I shall be taking her to this new vet to see what they think.... Basically I'm throwing money away now but the fact they didn't even give me enough Baytril... destroyed any faith I had!

In the meantime I am 100% more stressed than what Pebbles is she is perfect all I want is a confirmation the lump is fine, if it doesn't go.

I just want to know it is nothing sinister!

Thursday to give the Baytril sometime to work... and the new vet will have a look, it'll put my mind at ease adleast it lets me try them out for future!

Sounds sensible :)
You must let me know who they are if they're any good, the only one recommended for Glasgow on here is the one you've been to already.

Thats why I went but went I went back today I asked loads of questions... maybe it is just that branch though!

The one I have found is my local vet Taylor's they have exotic specialist... and they said they see alot of gp's, were as that one said they didn't really see any!

Pebbles just had her baytril she hates it! I gave her some strawberry to halp with the horrible taste.

Pebbles didn't get up for her veg!

When she finally did get up, she ate practically nothing, only thing I can think is she knew there was probiotics on it... I shall have to think of a new way for her to take probiotics, she went away to eat her hay! I'm thankful she is eating but her appetite has slumped... Shes normally destroys her veg!

Mix the baytril with proper ribeina and she will take it no problems (syringe them together).

Also my lot love probiotic in the water (the one from pets at home). I know what they say about not being able to monitor it but they drink loads when there is probiotic in it - may be worth a try?

OH and metatone will help with her appetite.

I am syringing Flopsy as well as letting her eat as she's lost almost 100g. Maybe do that?

It seems Pebbles is smarted than she looks, she had me sussed with the probiotics on the veg :(|), I gave her veg without it and she destroyed it.

I can get the baytril into her just about, I don't know how people syringe feed GP's it's so hard getting her to stay still! lol...

The lump may also be an abscess so keep a close eye on it, if it is it will need draining and probably a dose septrin to clear it up.

I'm keeping an eye on it and if it hasn't went down by Thursday I'm taking her to another vet, I haven't wrote off the fact it maybe an abscess... but the other vet I was at thinks it's the lymph nobe.

We shall see....
