Hiya, I know you all understand what I'm waffling on about aka ranting :(
I'm fed up of other people thinking it's ok to laugh, judge and comment in a hurtful way about how I keep my piggies and about me 'wasting money' on them due to many vet trips in the last 6 months. Why is it wrong to love and want the best for for my boys :(
Thanks for listening x

What idiots those people are. It is none of their business how you care for your boys. They are very loved and have wonderful care. You are a fantastic, loving piggy mum. I wish more people were like you.

I think we've all been there but hard as it is, just ignore them. There's nothing wrong with spending time and effort on something you love and it's way better than wasting money on drinking, clubbing or any number of other 'hobbies'. Someone who cares for their animals well and makes sacrifices for them should be congratulated not put down.

You be proud of being a piggy mummy. Your piggies adore you and are well looked after and that's all that matters :)

I hate it! I'm on placement at a hospital at the mo and said I had 2 piggies. One of the nurses was like 'so if it got really ill, would you take it to the vet and stuff?' What the hell!? Then she said 'anything smaller than a cat I don't see the point in taking to the vet' I was fizzing! I said my only pets were my guinea pigs! My piggies are to me, what your cat/dog is to you!

Oh dear, we spent well over £150 taking one of our pigs to the vets 4 times over the period of 5 weeks. Some people don't understand :(.

I think sometimes people say thing like this just to wind you up . Why do people think it's funny to wind someone else up?

And not taking an animal to the vet which is ill and needs treatment is a prosecutable offence regardless of how big/small it is.... That is a poor attitude to have to any animal!

Last week I told a woman I had a rabbit and she said her father in law cooks rabbits. Who would be so ignorant? It wound me up all right.

I find that one difficult to be honest. I like rabbits but I also eat meat including rabbit. My sister in law has a pet rabbit but she was brought up in France and regularly ate rabbit. I think that one depends on your outlook but you do have to be careful how/when/who you say things like that to!

This is exactly why my non-understanding parents or anyone else really, are never informed of the vet visits and cost of things!

It truly sucks how some people can be, especially that nurse D;

She did not need to say that though. It's hurtful.

Some people are so insensitive. I never knew how attached I would become to our piggys when we first got them. They are like our children and we do everything we can to make sure they are cared for just as we would do with any other animal that shared out home.

Very true. It's all about knowing when not so say things even if it's what you're thinking.... People seem to be less and less good at that these days and have less and less concern for the feelings of others and how their opinion may affect others. I see it online all the time where people say even more hurtful things than they would ever do in person.... We need to go back to the days of politeness and care for each other :)

Awww thank you very much hun, I was very upset this evening when I was asked how my piggies were, I said ok thank you, but I had to take my Oreo to the vets twice in a week bless him and he may need an op she said sometimes you have to call it a day when they keep needing vet treatment as at the end of the day you can always pick up another one :(
How hurtful, this little fella knows I'm trying my best to make him better he does not like the taste of the antibotics but he doesn't fight me, he sits there until it's over (he's not frightened at all) once he's had his meds I give him a chin rub then he hops into my shoulder and waits for his treat :)

That really is an awful thing to say. Maybe you need to stop talking to such insensitive people. You deserve much better then that. Xx

No :-( some people just don't understand. Or they don't care. Keep your chin up you are a Caring piggy mummy.

Thank you....see I knew you guys would make me feel better and understand. I don't smoke, gamble, take drugs, and I hardy drink. My children come first, my piggies a very close second and I'm third I think not that I treat myself (lol).

i know where you're coming from...
My colleagues at work all tease me about my girls, mostly in a nice way... but i wouldn't tell most of them how much i spend on the girls, some of them think that spending money on the newest game, mobile, car or clothes etc is acceptable!?! :xd:
I'm not that materialistic, my car is still just about hanging in there.....at least 10yrs later... old style reg, i have no games consoles, my mobile is a modest smartphone (needed the internet to get on here when my old laptop died originally). no drugs or smoking either & 99.9% tea total
i have no television... the amount of guff on it drives me nuts, i wasn't wasting the license fee! (could buy hay&food for years with that;))
I do rather dress like a tramp at every opportunity  .... well it doesn't matter if it gets all hairy, pooped or pee'd on does it - i like practical! & i like to support charity shops :shh:

But the one person at work that always likes to push my buttons on the guinea pigs for food debate, saying that's all they were bred for, is going to have a well earned dish served cold... of revenge, when i show him that he kindly paid a paypal payment for me (i'm no techno-head)...... i didn't tell him it was of a drawing of the girls i'm having done....
i cant wait to see the look on his face when i show him it :))

You keep up your caring approach to life & your pets, i'm sure you are a better person for it. We are more caring, compassionate, loving, understanding &stronger people because of our pets&piggies.
Just think we get the last laugh as us pet owners that do it right are supposed to have happier, healthier lives, less heart problems, lower blood pressures, less allergies etc..... i know its not always the case.... but we don't have to tell the non believers that :D:D
xx

Same here, I knew I would care for our piggies the best I could before I brought them, I never know I would love them and become so attached to them as I have.

:lol!: must remember to decline any offers of liquorice comfits... or chocolate covered raisins from you  :vom:
i will certainly share my amusement at his misfortune of the eccentric guinea lady's revenge picture... i soooo can't wait to see his face, when he realises he's been had!:P

:lol!: I Wouldn't share them with piggy loving people you would be offered the proper treats :)

I can understand you completely.my in laws once said I should ring my piggies neck instead of wasting money at the vets ! I've spent well over £200 in the last 5 weeks taking poppy Sophie and babies to the vets for treatments and I've got to go again tomorrow!

I get the same reaction from people! It's super annoying! I always hear, "she's just a guinea pig." I absolutely hate that. People think because they are so small that they don't even matter, but my guinea pig brings me so much joy and happiness and she's worth every vet bill! Mine has to go every month due to her neuro disorder and everyone just tells me to leave her alone. I refuse! She offers more love and comfort than some people do. I'm the same way with my dog. We're just animal lovers, we're rare and special people.:luv::D

yep, i've got a lot of 'it's just a guinea pig' over the years. I don't have any dogs or cats of my own, and my pigs are the equivalent of those pets to me. i think there's an element of 'dogs and cats are first tier pets, and anything else is second tier'

Completely understand! I once had to leave a entering course I was doing earlier as Dahlia has a mouth sore and I had to get home to give her antibiotic and syringe feed. When I said it this woman started laughing but as I didn't know her I got really cross and she got it, lolol.

How is Oreo?
