If anyone remembers or commented on any of my posts about my boy Bobby who unfortunately passed away after his bladder stone surgery last week, some of you replied to my comments under it about how I found a little boy who needs a new home. Making a 2 hour journey to a city called Kilkenny (Ireland) to pick the little guy up today! Very bittersweet because when I picked up Bobby and his brother Ollie back in 2021 it was a very similar situation, but irregardless I’m happy to offer this little guy a loving home.

Gonna quarantine him for 2 weeks when he arrives and then maybe see if he could bond with either of my boys who live as neighbours, and live with one of them. I’m under no illusion of how successful bonding will be since it’s 3 boys, I know the odds are slim to none but worth a shot 😂 I have the setup for 3 neighbours who live in the same L shaped C&C cage anyway so not a big deal either way and they’ll always be right beside eachother and interacting. Have some critical care and romaine lettuce packed for him for the journey and will post photos once he’s arrived :)

Best of luck for it.
You know a boar trio is less likely to work out so you aren’t going into it blind.
Make sure you provide enough space for them if it works - at least one square metre of territory each so a 300x100 cm cage (which comes to approx a 9x3 c&c)

Good luck with bonding and I’m sure you’re going to give this little piggy a wonderful home regardless of if he lives with his buddies or they stay neighbours.

I don’t have much faith everyone’s gonna get along in the same space but we’ll see!

Thank you so much! I feel terrible he’ll be still on his own for another couple weeks but at least he’ll be somewhere warm and have some interaction

How lovely. How old is the new boy? If he’s under 4 months they don’t need quarantining so he’d love to have a neighbour straight away. Good luck with the bonding. Hope you can make a pair. 😍

Aww. Yay! Sorry about Bobby. Glad you are rescuing this new little man. Best of luck! We want pictures. Even with neighbors, he will be happy I am sure!

Hi everyone, just got him home and the poor thing is absolutely petrified. He’s sitting completely still and not moving a muscle, eyes so wide and so on edge, poor little thing. I covered part of his cage and closed the blinds so the room was a bit darker and more calm for him and left some veggies if he decides he wants them. Cleaned out his temporary cage he came with too, was going to leave it but it was soaked in pee :( Seemed like he had been in the man’s car for hours. Didn’t want him lying in pee! He did apparently have a friend who died, god knows how long he’s been on his own

I picked him up to offer a little critical care but he refused but he did eat a whole romaine leaf on the way home and I saw him eat some hay on the way back too so I’ll leave him alone and let him calm down :)

Poor piggie. I'm sure he will settle once he realises he's safe with you but it may take a while.

When ever I've had a newbie I've found they eat over night once everything goes quiet. Any food left in the cage has gone by the morning. There's a lot of strange noises and smells for him to get used to. Try not to worry.

Yeah I’m such a panicker, I haven’t taken in a pig that’s gonna be alone for a while since my very first pig back in 2016 so I honestly don’t remember what they’re like at all in that regard. My boy Kip immediately moved in with his friend and Bobby and Ollie came together so were much more confident from the get-go. I’d imagine a 2 and a half hour car journey and a new location and being handled by someone new is stressful and scary for the poor little guy! Hopefully he starts to feel a bit more comfortable soon and realise he’s safe :)

Poop baby. I am sure he will be very happy with you once he settles in. Thank you for saving him ❤️.

He’s coming out a lot more and a lot more curious :) This was the only decent photo of him I got before I got him home and changed his bedding.

I’m just wondering what everyone thinks is an appropriate amount of time to quarantine him for? I’ve seen time frames from 7 days to 4 weeks so I really have no idea. If he was from a rescue I’d be more comfortable with even 7 days but since he was from an advertisement online and I was told he had a friend who died I’m concerned about 7 days being too short.

He's so cute!
