Picking up another friend today

Hi everyone! He’s settling in really well, he’s come out of his shell so fast. He’s so sweet and took him no time at all to start begging. Can’t wait for him to meet my boys ☺️

What a sweetie
I think he has sensed that you want to help him, and aren't a predator ☺️ He's in so much better place than he was, he's fallen on his little paws with you :D

Oh he is a cutie, have you thought of any names yet?
I’m actually struggling with names! Eggs is about the best I could come up with even though it’s so silly 😂 His little eye patch just reminds me of a fried egg for some reason. Open to suggestions if anyone has any!

He does look young - not baby young, but from my (very) untrained eye I'd be surprised if he was a year old. If it were me I'd be calling him Navan...which may or may not be a potato variety in Northern Ireland, lol.

I thought the same too! I was told he’s a year old but I honestly find that hard to believe, I’d be really surprised if he actually was a year or more too

Navan is actually really cute, reminds me of the town in Meath in Ireland called Navan too 😂

Where I worked at the time would have them in by the paper sack, the massive 50kg ones. We'd either sell them by the sack (which was fun lifting those, they weighed more than I did lol) or we'd empty a sack into a lined trolley someone had clearly nicked from somewhere decades earlier, and sort them into smaller 2.5kg, 5kg, and 10kg bags. That wasn't too bad actually. Good time waster when there was nothing else to do.

Navans weren't all we sold but they sold out quick. You could sell 3-4 of the 50kg paper sacks a shift sometimes.

I really like Eggs, it does suit him with his little eggy eye patch 😆 He is gorgeous and he does look young, what’s his weight?

I know what potatoes to look out for next time I’m in Northern Ireland now 😂

My Wilbur and Hugo are 21 weeks and weigh just over 700g
the man I took him off told me he was a year old and I’m really struggling to believe it based on how small he is and young he looks. either that or he seems seriously stunted? I was expecting at least 900g for a 1 year old pig

Again, no expert, but he doesn't seem stunted? It's not just his size, there's something about the way they look in the face/head when they're younger that they lose as they age, like they grow into their face almost. Eggs/Navan/insertnamehere doesn't look like he's done the growing into his face thing yet.

Would that be applicable do you think if he really is a year old? I’ve had my boy Kip since he was 9 months old but off the top of my head I can’t remember exactly how young he looked then, Ollie was about a year when I adopted him and looked the exact same as he does now and my rainbow bridge boys Rico and Bobby looked fully grown up at a year old too compared to this little guy

It's harder with the goblins but I had Comet and Blitzen from ~16w old and by a year later, they'd lost that baby face. Comet at 16w:

And...slightly older, I don't remember how much:

It's not the best example in the world because most of my photos are on my phone, but it's just as an idea.

i agree with Lorcan. He has a young face.
My two youngsters have young faces.
Ive just looked back on photos of Dexter and popcorn. They came to me at 4 months old and there is a definite difference in the way they look at 4 months vs the way they look at a year.

Short, sharp, nails are also another (not desperately scientific!) way too check but I cannot remember how Dex and Pops were like at a year old vs Wilbur and Hugo now at 5 months. W&H have little razor blades on the end of their toes!

What a handsome boy! I see exactly what you mean

I was already thinking of his nails, they’re VERY short. This is purely an assumption I don’t know for certain but based on the guy I took him from I can’t imagine they were clipping his nails either. If I hadn’t been told a year old I would’ve assumed 6-7 months

He really was. They both were, actually, especially after Blitzen's sheltie coat fully grew out. But I'd bet money he's nowhere close to a year old, poor wee lad. What would even be the point of exaggerating his age?

Oh no I assumed they were still here, I’m so sorry :(
That’s what I’m confused about, I don’t see any benefit to inflating his age. He told me the little guy had a friend too who passed away, and of course things happen my Bobby was only 2 1-2/3 when he passed after his bladder stone surgery but I do wonder what happened to a piggy that young, seems like they were both bought from a pet store for a child who lost interest and then thrown outside into a shed.

It's alright, that was a while ago and I've shared the house with a pair of delinquent hooligans for the past year now, lol. Very different to Comet and Blitzen temperament wise, but I love them to bits. Even when I get screamed at 24/7.

But yeah, sounds like he's younger and like the guy's been telling fibs somewhere along the line. He might have had them from someone else who claimed they were older than they were, and deaths can happen whenever, but those nails and that face aren't adult yet.

Just weighed him, only 722g! He’s nearly the same weight as my 6 1/2 year old boy Kip, really surprised how light he is
I think he is more likely to be 6/7 months old. Some people do lie and say all sorts to make a sale get rid.
But he is such a handsome little man, bet you are so happy you got him

He is so cute 🥰
I agree with others about his age.

I like @Lorcan ’s suggestion of Navan for a name. Other varieties of potato are Abbot, Setanta , Cosmos, Sante, Romano.
Eggs would be good too with that eye marking.

You may want to think of a theme such as characters from films or books, herbs or spices.

You will find a name that you realise is exactly right for him.

I usually go with tv shows! Rico and Kip and Ollie and Bobby were named after Napoleon Dynamite and Bob’s Burgers. (Rico is OTRB with Bobby sadly)
I have a dog (chow chow) named Yoshi after Mario the game, my cat’s called Miss Keisha from a silly meme and I had a roborovski dwarf hamster who passed in 2021 called Dorito, so I figured why not stick to a food themed name for this little guy 😂 That’s basically my entire life story but I usually don’t struggle so much for names! Even if they are a bit silly
