Han finally got the snip and he's home now. I've got him on puppy pads, gave him veg and gave him some antibiotic followed by water.
He ate most of his veg up.
Hes very fluffed up And makes funny wheezing sounds sometimes, is this normal? He was only operated on late morning today.
Should I be cleaning the op site at all? The info the vets gave me just says keep it dry and only clean it if it starts oozing.

Also Han has dodgy poos and gets mucky. I've changed the pads each time he's gone and it doesn't appear to be on the site that he was operated on.

Yes he did but he had an injection at the vets so I can't give him any until tomorrow :(.
He is eating the majority of his veg but the wheezing is worrying me. Guinea lynx website said sometimes wheezing can happen from the gas used in the op.

Hi! It is still very early. GA can in some cases cause breathing issues. Please contact your vet if they don't go away within a day. Place a bowl of steaming water next to cage and keep it refreshed if it helps to ease the breathing.

Place any hay and water close to where he is at the moment. And watch whether he is eating by himself or whether you need to top him up with syringe feed.

Follow your vet's instructions re. operation wound. Use mildly disinfecting saline solution or hibiscrub only when necessary. You can either get sterile sanile from your pharmacy or make it yourself by mixing 2 teaspoons of salt into 1 pint of boiled, cooled water.

Did you ask your vet how soon after the op Han can have painkillers again? At the moment, he is full of operation drugs, including painkillers, which need to wear off first. His poos are bound to be funny and fewer than normal for the first couple of days; they reflect the operation drugs.

You will find more detailed information in our post-op guide: Tips For Post-operative Care

Thank you for the response. He can have his meds tomorrow, started the antibiotics immediately though.
He's eating the majority of his veg slowly. Not touched his water or hay but I've syringed him a bit of water and given him lettuce.
I've got him in the upstairs on his c and c cage on puppy pads and changing it whenever there's anything on it. He's in his igloo and his water is near and hay is in a small dish so it doesn't spread around.

Which method of neutering was used? Has he got a tiny incision each side, or a larger wound down his belly? They can be a bit wheezy post op, due to the gas, but that should stop very soon.

He has two small incisions. The vet did them as high up as he can due to hans bowel problems of sometimes sloppy poo

You can offer him some syringe feed before you go to bed, like mushed up pellets, to help firm up and bulk up his poos, but don't force them down him.

Most vets start with antibiotics to prevent an infection of the wound, but it is a very good sign that Han is eating at all at this stage and just what you want to see. The GA will take a bit more time to wear off.

My vet uses that method too and I've never had any problems. Why has he been prescribed antibiotics? If he's eating, I'd leave him alone this evening. By tomorrow he will probably be feeling much brighter.

He wouldn't have but I asked for them. Han suffers with funny poos that can be quite mushy and dirty. I have to clean his bum and feet daily. I wanted them to help lower the risk of him getting an infection if he decides to sit on his sloppy poos. He has had his poos tested and been tried on various things, we are stumped to why he is the way he is

Hi, it's a worrying time.My boy got castrated two days ago and isn't doing wonderfully well.He has lost weight, has swelling on the site and no wees and very few poos.He is being kept in at the vets til Monday to keep an eye on him and step in if necessary.Everything g crossed for your boy

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he perks up soon. I heard it can be swollen for a day or two anyway?
Got a post op check up Monday with the vet so I'm sure if anything is out of the ordinary he will sort it.
Such a worrying time!

I am very sorry that things haven't gone well for your boy! Fingers very firmly crossed!

Good news, Han's breathing has gone back to normal and he's been going to his hay and eating. So fingers crossed all will be well. I'll put a fleece in his bed before I go to bed to keep him warm for the night.

That is great news! it looks like all is well on track! I would recommend to get up once during the night to check on him, but I don't think that you need to worry now.

I just gave him his antibiotics
He's been pooing and weeing. Looks like he was sitting in wee though. I'm not sure if I should clean the surgery site or leave it be? I've changed his puppy pads and put fleece on where he will be sleeping now.

So pleased he is getting better. No news from the vets about heathcliffe so he must be doing OK.

Not the best morning. Woke up at 5 and changed his pads. He's eating but not drinking so much.
This morning I woke up and there was smeared poo every where and all over his body! It was on the wound too. I soaked him in some warm water with a bit of salt for a minute then used water from the kettle and salt to clean his wound again.
I didn't want to get him so wet but his entire belly and underside was covered in sloppy poo :(

Which antibiotic is he on? If he's prone to soft poo then it's likely that the antibiotic is making the problem worse.

I did give him extra watery veg yesterday as he wasn't drinking much as well.
I think metronidazole but I'm not able to double check right now.

Has anyone got any pics of their piggies healing process?
I've cleaned the incisions again as his poo was touching them.
His 'balls' or where they should be, isn't flat? Is it normal for them to look almost like he hasn't been done? I think they flat out when he sits down though.
I have a check up tomorrow anyway with the vet but I am insanely paranoid about him getting an infection.

Sorry l haven't got photos to hand but yes it will not look flat as the scrotal sacs are still there and if vet hasn't removed the fat pads the testes can still appear present. Plus there can be some swelling around the operation sites. I will try and get a photo tomorrow of a recently neutered boar.

thank you. I'm probably being a little paranoid. Just really trying not to let him get infected. Wasn't sure how it was meant to look

Update: He had his post-op checkup today and vet seems pleased with him. Said if his poo keeps getting caught in the stitches then he could remove them sooner, but I think he will be alright as long as I keep up with cleaning him a couple of times a day.
He was very active last night as he trashed everything in his cage, so obviously had a lot of fun.

@Jeniva =photos as promised but it doesn't sound as if you need them now! This is Melvin who was neutered a week ago. Our vet uses self dissolving stitches and as you can see does a very neat job! Glad to hear that your boy is doing wellWP_20160711_15_46_25_Pro[1].webp WP_20160711_15_46_42_Pro[1].webp

About a week to 10 days

oh ok. He was prescribed 5 days of antibiotics which started immediately. Hopefully he wont get an infection when these run out. One side looks very neat and almost healed, the other still has a tiny scab or two on it and the skin is a bit more pinched up and not as neat looking. hopefully he will heal well.
