Pirate has been doing fine, then yesterday I thought he looked a little hunched and not happy and seemed to be very sleepy. So having had a read up and watching him closely we think he is struggling to poo. He stands still and sort of strains. We have cut out all veg incase he has had too many gassy vegs - he did have some grass (went in outside run for first time thur) and some cabbage. Anyway he is pooing but not much, he is eating hay and a few pellets and he has been having odd drink.
He seems to be more inclined to poo went let out to play on my sofa! and encouraged to move around a bit more (like us I suppose). Anyway we are going to vet as soon as we can - but anything you would recommend - should I give him any specific veg or just lay off for a while and try and keep him active so he poos more. I have NO idea if he is weeing as no idea how you check he is on vet bed fleece stuff but I know he has not weed on more sofa lol. He is also still interested in one of his chewy toys (gnawing pieces of wood) I removed his hard rock gnawy thing from his cage and last night we seperated them (by shutting off one level for him and 2 for her) so we could monitor the poo etc.
Any words of wisdom would be great thanks. (oh and apologies for spelling mistakes!)

http://www.guinealynx.info/impaction.html this site is quite useful if a little minging lol it suggests rubbing mineral oil around your piggies anus! Is he still eating his poop as he needs to for the nutrients if not he will become unwell! Hope he feels better and poops soon! :)

Thanks he does seem to be going, but just not very often and seeming to struggle when going. He is only young so dont think it is impaction as seems to be an older guinea pig thing. We are hoping to pop him to the vets today but that means a pet shop vet as only one that is open. I have printed off a list of meds their reasons and things they can NOT have and if no luck we will take him to our normal vet on monday. He does seem to be trying to eat odd bits of him poo - well have seen him a couple of times in that funny position (they always look like they are going to fall over backwards!). Thanks for reply x

Haha they do don't they I wondered what they were doing when I first got them I held their backs so they wouldn't fall lol. Good luck and I hope your piggy is ok keep me posted!

You need to find out whether he is urinating. This is more likely to be a urinary problem than a faecal problem.

Pop him on a towel, or in a box or something, and see what happens. Ideally you also want to be able to see the colour of the urine to see if there's any obvious blood in it.

I would urge you to see a vet today, despite it being a Sunday. This isn't something that should be left until tomorrow.

Let us know how you get on!

We have 2 WEES! we have him out in a run in the living room and the edges of it are a nylon (one of those fabric unfold runs) and having sat and watched him he has had 2 wees with no funny colour or anything just looks like when he normally wees on the edge bits. He is looking much much brighter and he has pooed quite a few more times as well so really really hoping was just something he ate.
If he is weeing would you still take him today (my main concern is the pet shop vet is a lot further away and I dont want to stress him out)? He has also gone and had another drink - we have a bottle and a bowl in there so he can have what ever he prefers and a whole load of hay and a few pellets.
Thanks all for help (again!) x

Have just put him on the sofa again (he seems to like it) and he was at time runninf from one end to other trying to climb the cushions and a few more poos - and been eating some or atleast I think he was in a position I could not really see but that was what it looked like from behind! So fingers crossed we are feeling a bit better. Oh and lots of stretching and reaching up trying to climb which I am hoping is a good sign and not something they would do if poorly?
