I have a 5 1/2 month old piggie named Ogi, and he seems to stay in his hidey a lot! It usually happens when he is in his playpen, but I figured it was because he is probably more used to being in his cage. He is out a lot in his cage, and goes into his hidey to rest when he wants to. In his playpen however, he only decides to come out when there is food at the start of playime, and then rejects food the rest of the time. I have tried removing hideys to show him there are other things to do, but I have gone back to giving hima hidey in the playpen so that he has a place to retreat to.
Help? - Mac ♥

I also noticed that he moves around more in a dark environment :D

:wel:He probably hasn’t gotten used to his play pen - it’s like a vast land where predators could get to him if he left his hide. Please don’t take it away. Leave it in and perhaps add another. What you could try doing is to cover the pen with something. He’d possibly feel more secure then.

How long have you had him, and is he a lone pig? If yes, do you have plans to get him a friend once the current situation is over?

Please add your location onto your profile so future information can be tailored. We’d love to see photos of Ogi.

Don’t worry he is probably nervous of the new environment
this may seem gross but this helped me pop some of his poos into the play pen so it smells of him that might coax him out if not he might just need a bit more attention and needs to trust you a bit more i have had a few pigs like that normally they just need a bit of security. Let me know if this works for you

When I first got my two girls I didn't put them in their play pen until a week. I tried to let them settle a bit first

He does poop in his playpen a lot, so maybe that should help him get used to it! I put a small blanket over his playpen (only covering half) to give him a little bit of a more dark environment. He is sniffing around right now, and seems to be okay with it. Thanks!
