Hello everyone,
I was just cleaning out my piggies and getting them ready for bed and I noticed that there was a little blood on one of their cushions. Now it wasn't a huge puddle of blood just a few blobs and I think I know which piggie it is.

They don't seem to be in pain, they're not hunched or walking around strangely. They're eating, drinking, scoffing up their veggies in the morning, still popcorning and getting excited and they still make a ton of noise at night! So nothing is out of the norm.

My mum says that I should keep an eye on them and if it seems to be getting worse then we'll take them to the vet because patches (the pig I think the blood may be coming from) has problems with dry feet and sometimes she might take a scab off and sometimes it bleeds. I've been using the gorgeous guineas foot ointment on her feet to hopefully help her a bit.

I feed my piggies on the harringtons pellets and for veggies they usually get romaine lettuce, salad from salad bags, peppers (all colours) tomatoes (usually 2 times a week) carrots, kale, green beans, some times apple, celery (usually 2 times a week) little gem lettuce, and the sweet little gem lettuce. They get pillow wad meadow hay and they sometimes get burgess forage and the burns forage. Obviously I mix it up for them but I had this huge scare that maybe she could be passing through tiny kidney stones or something like that. But other than that I'm not sure where the blood could come from.

My mum also had a thought that maybe they could be like us ladies and maybe they have periods?? I wasn't sure at first but I know dogs do if they're not spayed. But I'm not sure it was just a thought!

So if you have any idea then it would be much appreciated because I'm kind of terrified!

Hmm I'd be more inclined to think it was blood in urine. If so I'd take them to a vet to get checked out. Have you checked for any wounds that could be bleeding a little and leaving the stains? X

I would get them checked, worth finding out who it is also. To do this feed piggies wet veg then pop them in a bowl and wait for them to wee. You'll see who is doing it then

I've rung the vet and I've made an appointment to go in next week to get them both checked out. Right now the girls are running around on the floor and I'm waiting for one to pee. But they're running around popcorning so they're not sore. Hopefully one will pee eventually!

But thank you guys!

I'd also ask the vet to check their feet. Scabs on their feet suggest that it could be bumblefoot, and that is a complete nightmare to heal.

In the meantime the pigs bedding needs to be changed more regularly to prevent infection getting in. One of my boys pads were getting bit red so I added small pieces of fleece under the parts he slept on, so I could swap them daily. His footsies are nice and pink again now.

Vetbed is a fantastic bedding for piggies with feet issues, but it is really expensive. One of my boys has arthritis so he's bedded on that as it's really fluffy to walk on.

Hello everyone! Thank you for everything. I took my girls into the vet today as we managed to swap appointments. The lady who we saw specialised in small animals. She said that patches maybe had a urinary infection but it was definitely not bladder stones. She gave us some antibiotics to hopefully clear it up. Bitzy is fine. She also said that patches feet were a little dry but she said that the gorgeous guineas ointment should help clear it up. Other than that they're fine! I just need to master syringes now but luckily we've been practicing!
Thank you everyone!

The vet didn't say she had bumblefoot but I'm obviously going to keep an eye on her tooties. I do keep my piggies on fleece and I also use vet bed for them too:) lovely and soft for them, they always fight for the best one!:)

That's fantastic news! I was just a bit worried when I read scabs and feet, a scary combo. I' really glad it's not the case though.

Sounds like you have spoiled piggies,! :D

I'm relieved! I was so scared when I saw blood. She's always had a problem with dry feet I'm not sure what it really is but if the vet says there's nothing to worry about I won't be to worried either.

And I think they know they're spoiled!:D waking me up at 4 o'clock in the morning! But anyway now they're tucking into some dandelions:)

I'm very pleased to announce that both of the girls are now doing great! I have found no blood (fingers crossed there won't be anymore!) Patches (the Abyssinian) had her last syringe of antibiotics today and she took them extremely well, no fuss what so ever! So proud of her:) <3
Patches all better:)
