Piggies Sold To Be Paired With Rabbits?

@piggyfan I was upset to find kittens for sale in a pet shop local to my workplace recently. For some reason it upset me most to find they were housed in pens according to their colour and priced accordingly. It seemed so heartless. I did enquire about the legality of it and apparently they can sell kittens if they have a special licence.

I dont think many people would think it was the best place to buy a cat though? My cats have always been rescues, and all rescues are heaving with kittens, even pedigrees.
That really is so sad as they will be bought on impulse because they are small and cute. No cat can possibly be happy living in such environment either.

Just read the whole of this thread, and the pet shop's Facebook page. Its dreadful! On the whole, pet shops are a very bad idea... I've never been in a 'good' pet shop that I trust.

I was particularly distressed by seeing that they are selling cats, I didn't know that was still legal.

I hope one day there'll be a world without pet shops!

Everything you just said was true! I wish everyone would get there pets from a rescue. Especially our rescue, they come to your house to check if its suitable to live in even with the small animals. (which I know a lot of rescues do) and the homes they live in for that time are amazing. They are definatly suitable. My two girls were in a shed type thing, with a run about 2x4.5 foot. And they were feeding them on great food! where as pet shops just give you the animal and thats it.

I knew someone who worked in a pet shop in a gardening centre, she would ask the customer lots of questions before selling the animal to them, but then if she didn't think they knew or could look after it she refused to sell it to them. The result: she was fired.

Thanks horrible! The people who are doing the good are getting fired! I know a great garden center pet shop that houses there guinea pigs in great runs! the only problem is that they have monkeys! I'm not sure what type but small monkeys and you cant buy them they are jut for display but its horrible that these poor monkeys are being kept in captivity in such bad enclosures

I knew a women at a pet shop and she was really nice. When someone came in to but an animal, she would ask them what facilities they have and so on. If she thought that the person was the wrong type of person she would say that the animal was booked when they weren't and she wouldn't sell them. A few months later her shop closed down. Which was very very sad seeing as she was only trying to protect the animals and make sure they were going to nice homes. It is very sad.
