So I've noticed recently that my girl Toast seems to be getting hiccups after eating her vegetables. I'm not even sure if it is hiccups, can guinea pigs get hiccups?
It only seems to be after she's ate (usually eats her veggies very quickly) she seems to make this coughing sound for a minute or so and her body kind of "jumps" slightly at the same time. It doesn't seem to bother her as such because she continues to eat and run about, I'm just trying to find out if it is hiccups and if there's a way to stop it? :)

Heaving hiccups in guinea pigs. | Peter Gurney Guinea Pig Health Guide

Maybe this article by Peter Gurney could explain what's happening? My first piggy used to gulp down his veggies very quickly, and a piece would often go the wrong way, and then he'd have hiccups. I ended up hand-feeding veggies to control the speed at which he ate, because aspirating food and not coughing it back can lead to pneumonia.

Thank you! It only last around 30 seconds then she's back to normal. How would I know if it lead to pneumonia? Would there be any signs..

Some greedy piggies swallow a lot of air when they gobble things down too fast. There is no danger of a pneumonia, as even food bits that go down the wrong way never get down to the lungs and are coughed up again.
