Piggy overnight at the vets & tests today

He hasn't pooped or weed all day yet. He's just facing away from everything in his cage to the wall. It's a massive struggle to get him to eat any recovery food as he's fighting it or drooling it out. Only manage about 5mls each sitting every 2 hours coz of that and a little bit of water.

I don't understand, he was ok yesterday and during the night 😪😪

The out of hours mobile number conn cred but went to a voicemail, I left a message hours ago and they still haven't got back In touch. Hubby just rang again, went back to voicemail.

He's just on a call to vetsnow, gonna ask if they can prescribe some gut motility drugs or something? They aren't exotics so I just don't understand why Ashleigh have this vets as as their our of hours one. Gonna have to take him there

He has "cerenia" but I can't find what on earth this is used for in guinea pigs?

Yeh have attempted syringe feeds every 2 hours all day but can only get 5mls in him at a time because he fights it like mad or drools it out

I’ve only ever given Cerenia to my cat. It’s to stop nausea and vomiting. Not sure of it’s relevance for guinea pigs.

Cerenia works as an anti-inflammatory for the bladder. Both that and metacam (anti-inflammatory and pain relief) provide double cover almost. We have used cerenia many times and it’s brilliant for bladders so please don’t worry about that.

Ok thanks, I thought it was a gut motility drug yesterday when they prescribed it, they did mention to get his "guts moving" so that's why I thought that.

On way to vetsnow hopefully they can prescribe som motility drugs

Oh right that’s interesting to know. I’ve only ever used it with cats who are nauseous and vomiting.

It might work for other things as well, I’m not sure, but it definitely works for bladder inflammation. Had a few bladder pigs myself unfortunately. It can take a long time for the inflammation to settle but with the metacam and cerenia together he should be very well covered. Hope he will be ok.

I’m pleased you are getting him checked out. I had a boar that needed a stone removal and he sadly didn’t recover well from the anaesthetic. Your boy may need lots of help in the coming days. Keep us posted on what the vet says. What pain meds is he on?

I'm sorry to read things aren't going well at the moment, I hope the vet can help.

Crazy thought maybe, but can guinea pigs eat baby food, or maybe just blend/mash up some veg?

I had a very poorly hamster once, she was put on critical care by the vet, they also suggested getting baby food for her, had to be careful but I did find a baby food with no added sugar, additives etc etc that was just veg or fruit.
My hamster wasn't overly keen on the critical care, but she loved the baby food.

Just trying to think of a way to get him eating again.
