Piggy overnight at the vets & tests today

Yeh very true. It's Ashleigh vets in Chorlton Manchester :)

He still has a little leg catheter in so they asminster any meds if needed.

I just hope he doesn't feel too awful I feel so bad putting him through this, though I know it has to be done xx
 
He’s in the best place. They are taking good care of him. Hopefully by tomorrow he will be feeling much better.
 
They said he's not got any more neuro issues today and ate lots last night and was bright etc :)

Still waiting for the vet to asses him today so that he can be picked up.

Obvs I've been doing lots of reading since Tuesday, and first I've ever heard of that "osseous metaplasia" condition of the eyes. I'm pretty sure he has that too as his eyes look similar to a lot of the pics on here of there with it, and the vet asked about his eyes quite a bit at his appt. So I'm going to ask the vet about that today, I know there's no cure but it's good to know.

The vet also said cyst he has is also apparently not a cyst but an infected benign skin tumor. Old age eh!
 
So pleased that he’s bright and ready to come home. Such great news :)

So happy to hear he came around and are back at his paws. What a strong little man 💜

What do they think about that tumor? Does he needs another surgery, or is it antibiotics and let it be? Hope for the last.

Aye thanks :) just hope his wound heals nicely now and that he can use his legs properly again after it's healed.

She said it's benign so just see how it goes, unless it becomes large or badly infected she said it's best to leave it. She wasn't really concerned about it, but I will double check with them today again :)
 
Yay, so glad he's better and can come home! Good boy Reggie ❤️
We've had a fair few pigs with osseous metaplasia, it's never caused them any issues 😊
 
He's home now! He was happy to see Peanut and she was happy to see him! We put them both in his side for 5 mins so she could say hi and he was rumbling and things.

His wee is a bit bloody/brown. He's had a little bit of veg happily too. But I can tell he's really tired so just wants to sleep.

I am glad to hear that Reggie is back home! That is a rather sizeable stone; no wonder was he not well. I hope that he is getting better with every passing day since having the stone out is such a relief! He must have had it for a long time, seeing how smooth it is.

Could the skin tumour be trichofolliculoma?
It's a very benign condition that usually doesn't cause any problems. They get often treated as an infected cyst. The link below may help you allay the fears that inevitably come up with the word 'tumour'.

I've only just caught up with this thread. I am pleased to read he is home and my piggies send lots of healing wheeks for a speedy recovery x
 
Hey guys, he was ok all evening and the throughout the night checks. My hubby has got up today and he's just seemingly lost what appetite he had yesterday)last night. He had some coriander and a tiny bit a of grass but isnt really interested in anything else and seems a lot more lethargic.
It's like he has only just had the operation (it was 48 hours ago now). He's done only about 24 poos since bringing him home at 5pm yesterday, a few of them overnight were sticky strung-together ones.

We have given him his morning meds which are arthrocam, cerenia (and will give him marbocyl later as it's once a day only).

We have given him a 4.5ml SS recovery food syringe feed he really didn't want any more than that he faught it like mad at the end. I do have emeraid IC in as well.

Checked his wound and it looks ok, can see the little swelling underneath it on the right side of the incision site that they mentioned.

Is this common this long after surgery? I thought they were usually only like this same day and probably for the day after (which was yesterday)

His eyes are quite milky as well, way more milky compared to yesterday.

I've tried to the ring the vets to ask about all this but of course theyre fantastic in the week but completely unhelpful/don't exist at weekends as the out of hours number just doesn't connect and nobody is answering the main number it just redirects to the out of hours number that won't connect! I'm so mad.

When one of my other pigs had an emergency a few months back on a BH weekend, Ashleigh had no vets on and the auto message redirected us to vetsnow 10 miles away, I called and they said they don't have exotics vets there, so I went to a regular vets up the road who couldnt do anything except prescribe metacam.

This happened to us recently with the out of hours. If you register online with The Exotic Animal Vets (new exotic only practice in Urmston) then you should be able to register with their out of hours Vidivet service for advice. There’s more info on the website. Hopefully that will give you an option at least.

Hope Reggie is ok.
 
Glad to hear he is home, but so sorry he isn't as bright as yesterday.

Having never had guinea pigs (I am a wannabe at the moment), but I've had experience with post op care in hamsters and my dog has undergone bladder stone surgery, I wonder if yesterday/last night he was still running on anxiety, and now he's had time to settle and have the 'good I'm home' feeling and has fully relaxed, he now realises how he is feeling hense the not wanting to eat?

I had that problem with my dog, Bungo, on the day he came home after bladder stone op he seemed surprisingly 'with it', happy to eat etc.
Later that evening it was like he realised he was home and finally just sank into bed and slept, which was great of course, sleep helps heal. However he seemed worse in the morning, didn't want to eat, just wanted to sleep etc. I just let him eat what he would eat (in Bungos case he practically lived off porridge and meds for two days).
