I'm devastated over the loss of one of my piggies, I had three boys (Snoopy, Pippin and Fudge) who live indoors and this morning we found that Fudge had passed away.

I've been away from home this weekend but when I spent time with them on Friday they were all fine and eating their daily veggies with excitement. Little did I know on Saturday when I was away Fudge didn't eat any of the veggies places in the cage (but my Mum not knowing any better didn't think this was something to worry about so didn't tell me). Then I received a phone call Sunday morning that Fudge had passed away. I was just wondering if anyone can give me any ideas why he passed away, they're not old piggies, they're only over a year old. And the only indication from what I'm told is that Fudge wasn't eating and he seemed a bit lethargic but it was his personality that he liked to hide out in the house.

I've booked my other two a vets appointment for the morning but I'm just so upset. I'm also worried about how my other two are doing with the loss of their friend but they seem fine for now.

I'm so sorry for your loss, hoping hard that your other piggies will be ok <3

I unfortunately had the same situation with one of my piggies, Pipsweak was fine one day and the next he wouldn't eat or drink so I switched to syringe feeding but sadly he died the following day, similarly to you I also am unsure what happend and what went wrong so I will be interested to see if anyone can figure it out on this thread, hope your other two piggies will be okay though x

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Since Guinea pigs are prey animals, they hide illness very well so they don't appear weak in the wild.

Normally by the time a Guinea pig looks sick and is off their food, they are already extremely ill.

It's impossible to say what was wrong, it could have been a massive number of things.. But it's clear it was something major and your poor piggy just couldn't fight anymore.

Sleep tight little one x

Thank you everyone, just to let you know the vet didn't find anything wrong with my other two so that's good news although he said to keep an eye on them.
