Pippin isnt right 😥

Have you tried mushed up pellets for syringe food?

With probiotics it's recommended at least an hour between the antibiotics and probiotic. So either an hour before or an hour after, whichever works best for you. If Pippin isn't digging the critical care I would try some mushed up pellets instead as their usual pellets might be more temptinf
Going to much some now for the next attempt.. struggling to get the stuff in the actual syringe.. trial.and error...

May be teaching my granny to suck eggs but have you cut the tip off the syringe?
lol .. the vet did but its so tiny.. To be honest @VickiA - never had to syringe feed before! i have just come across a bigger barrelled one so hopefully my new mushed up pellets will be a better consistency...and i found a pack of critical care still in date from god knows where !

Morning everyone.. I am really struggling to get her to eat.... she is fighting me with the critical care/mushed up pellets.. have watched videos how to do it over and over.. wrapped her up.. can get her mouth open but she is fighting me and the majority of it is coming out..
Still cant be tempted by any real food / hay
We have an appointment at the vets at 3.15pm but I am worried this is too long away as I cant get her to eat..
Going to separate her and Winny for a bit to see if she does any pops. She just wants to be cuddled or sit in the corner of the cage

She doesn't have any painkillers so wondering if she needs them?

She may do. I often feel that if a piggy is fighting the syringe feed then that's a fairly good sign as it means they have some strength. I have to admit that when piggies are more stubborn I pop them on the kitchen counter so I can hold their head and open their mouth a little with one hand and syringe a little in with the other. Fingers crossed the vet can get to the bottom of this

Hello, I just read your thread. I had a very similar situation happen to me and my Pam. Cuddling her and staying with her is the best thing you can do, after multiple vet trips she ended up okay. I really hope the same for you, Pam was a little shaken up from being transported from home to the vet and that’s also why she didn’t poop for a little bit on the medicine so that could also be the case, I’m hoping the vet can help you out today. The critical care is really hard to get down but the “guinea burrito” my vet called it, wrapping them up was the only way I could get her to take it. I can tell how much you care about her, and I am praying for you and her that everything will be okay. Best of luck today I’ll be thinking about both of you❤️

Yes I thought that about her fighting back... she even put her little foot out the towel and whacked it away... if I wasnt so worried I would say well done Pip! I have had her on the kitchen table as cant do anything with her on my knee.. thank you

The burrito is what I am doing.. altho she has been good she managed to reverse in it so her head was partially covered or managed to wrangle her front feet out... little monkey.. going to ring the vets soon as they open for more advice and see what they say.. just a worry and my head is banging from being so worried and lack of sleep.. thank you x

Stay strong❤️ Dealing with a sick piggy is one of the hardest things to go through. On top of that having to do the burrito. I’ll be sending positive thoughts for you and her today. I hope the vet can help, keep us updated.

We have 5 poo's and she did a wee when I weighed her... she was 995g before syringe and 1000g after but she barely touched it.. just kept spitting it out..
Will try again in an hour.. she took the antibiotics ok..

Got the wee in a syringe just incase they need a sample..

Sending healing vibes for Pippin. xx
Did your vet manage to take a look at Pippin's back teeth, just wondering if it could be a dental issue.

Up-date - we went to the vets at 2.15pm ( worse thing being it's down the retail park - WHY are so many people still out shopping :yikes::yikes: )

Saw Will, nice vet... He checked Pippin over - as we didn't see him yesterday - I expressed my concern about her not eating much so he told me to water it down as she has been tolerating water by syringe.... Also said to try some baby food if she won't take the critical care when its been watered down a bit more..

Could not get a proper look at her teeth - he did clear a bit of her mouth with a cotton but but all she did was eat the scope thingy...

So I now have:
Metacam - once a day ( he did give her an injection there and then as I was concerned she didnt have any pain relief ).

Baytril - once a day

Fibrelplex

Emeprid - twice a day - I think this is the stuff you said @sport_billy ?

So back to getting as much as I can in her on regular shifts - well just me

We have the emergency vets number for Christmas and Boxing Day - hoping we don't need it and have an appointment Friday afternoon if no improvement...

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support - it really does mean a lot. x

I hope all of that will help little Pippin through whatever is troubling her, poor piggie.

How are you doing, with all this worry landing on you in the midst of Christmas? X

Sounds like you and your vet have all the bases covered there to keep her comfortable and eating and her guts functioning for the next few days, its really up to Pippin now if she can pull through, and I really hope she does! Paws crossed and hugs and healing wheeks and Christmas wishes that Pippin will be ok, this must be such a worry over Christmas but it really sounds like the vet has covered everything they can for a few days of mystery holiday illness survival and recovery x

When one of my boys needed syringe feeding I mixed a little bit of baby food in with the mushed up pellets and found he tolerated it a lot better. Sending healing vibes your way.

When Ted had his dental problems and I had to syringe feed him for 6 weeks I was guilty of adding a tiny bit of honey, it made it slightly more palatable, he hated Critical Care/Science Selective but I was desperate!
Have you tried a little bit of fresh grass or a rolled up dandelion, that’s what got Ted eating a little bit on his own
Sending healing vibes to poor Pippin x
