Hi I've had my 2 piggies (Patricia and Dorothy) for over 3 years now, they are 2 sisters and have always lived together in their cage. From an early age I've known which one was the dominant (Patricia) and they have never really fallen out. They both have their moments while in season when they strut around each other and squeak a lot. It normally lasts a few days at most I think, I thought that was what was happening now but it's been over a week now since the whinging began. Patricia is constantly pestering Dorothy, I'm not sure if shes bullying her or just annoying her but Dorothy is driving me crazy with the constant whinging. Since I moved home I don't have much space so the cage is in my bedroom and they are making it near impossible for me to sleep at night, so I thought I'd try seperating them at night to see if it calmed them down (and helped me get some well needed sleep! ) well it was amazing! So quiet while they are apart. I just feel super guilty keeping them in different cages. They are next to each other so know they're not far apart but I didn't know if I'm doing the right thing. Can they just fall out all of a sudden after 3 years?

If it started after you moved then it could just be a case of dominance over the new territory. There will be new smells and sounds around them. But it might just be that something has triggered it; my guinea pigs often have standoffs out of the blues. If it continues to happen, I would suggest you just try and distract them from it with food/toys/places to hide etc.
