I recently adopted "baby pig" because my other male guinea pig (Branston) recently lost his friend and i thought he was lonely.

Baby Pig is 10 weeks old and has settled in very well and Branston is 10 months old.

I have slowly started introducing them to each other, it seems to be going ok. But Branston quite often "chases" baby pig around the cage and tries to mount him. I read on here that its ok and it's Branston showing his dominence. I'm a bit worried as baby pig is very small and Branston quite often "walks" over him, would he hurt him? :...
They do chat to each other, Branston quite often makes a quiet warning sound though. When i put them back in their own cages Branston stands on his roof calling out for Baby Pig :{

I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing, please advise as to whether this is normal what Branston is doing? and whether there is anything I can do to help them get along.

Thanks x>>

I'm in exactly same situation at the moment. I have a 7 week old baby in with my 4/5month old one and he's bossing him around so much! It is normal and it does calm down eventually, my older one makes a rumberin noise at my baby one and used to hump non stop but now I've had the little one a few days he's starting to run off and squeak at the other one as if bs shouting at him :) hehe. The older one has even become quite protective over the baby one. The mommy pigs always stand on the babys an they just get in a bad mood sometimes and squeak but mostly the babies don't seem affected by it I find.

Hope they become good friends :)
X

Branston won't hurt him. Babies can move incredibly fast if they want to, to get out the way.

Mounting, chasing, brring & rumblestrutting (when they sway their bums & shift their weight from leg to leg) are all normal.

Each time you separate them & then re-introduce them dominance has to be re-established each time. If you are wanting them to live together then do as you've already done; introduce in a neutral space (give them hay & veggies) & watch.
If there is no actual biting & the baby doesn't look distressed, can eat, drink & walk about then leave them together & put them both into a newly cleaned cage, making sure each has a hidey, bowl & water bottle. Two of everything gives less to argue over.

Don't worry if Branston has calmed down after the initial introduction but starts again in the cage. This too is normal, it is a new space/territory & he may feel he has to re-establish his dominance over the baby.

They arn't biting or distressed, baby pig just talks away to him. They were both eating together earlier, i've brought a big cage so will set that up with two of everything and see how it goes. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your advise

All good advice. I would also suggest using hideys with 2 exits (an upturned cardboard box with doors each end is good) just so that little one can't get trapped inside if he is chased.

Good luck. :)
