Adult Guinea Pig
Following the sad threads on here regarding piggies dying in the sub zero temeratures I received a phone call from a distraught lady this morning. She has always kept her 4 piggies outside but in a warm insulated shed without any problems. As the weather is so very cold just now she put a calor gas heater in the shed last night, turned down very low to keep her pigs a little warmer. Sadly during the early hours, she thinks the bag of hay fell off the shelf and onto the fire. Neighbours alerted when they returned home late and saw flames but she was only able to save one pig and he is now with her vet but there is not much hope as he is quite badly burned. The other 3 were already burned to death.
The poor woman is beside herself with grief
- she was only doing what she thought was best for her pigs and trying to keep them warm.
I told her about the forum and she asked me to post this in the hope that no other pigs will suffer the same fate as hers.
