Thanks guys! I have asked them to keep him in another day,as I want to make sure the poop output is good and he is eating well on his own - they were a little concerned he wasn't eating very much on his own - but wolfed down some critical care - he has lost 90 gms in two days - so I was wondering when I bring him home tomorrow night (Wednesday) - should I take him into the shop with me on Thursday so I can give him critical care every few hours - or would he be better off at home with his wifepigs (I cant't really take all 3 into the shop in one cat carry case) and me just top him up before I go and when I get back?

Any suggestions as to what might be best and how much and how often I should feed the critical care would be greatly appreciated.

Just an update on Bumble - he is still battling bumblefoot but 1 foot is now free of any dressings and the other 3 are healing - as its been more than a month after his hour long bladder op and he still has squeeky wees she decided that he needed to be CT scanned as nothing was showing up on x ray or ultrasound and there was clearly still something going on. the insurance only pay 50% of a CT or MRI and the last guinea pig she had CT scanned cost £600 - so she must have pulled in a huge favour as the total bill for GA, scan and reporting was £114 - I know she joked about tagging him on to the end of a dog who was being scanned but didn't want him to end up a furry snack - CT showed a lot - fractured tooth - arthritis in knees - lymph nodes up (but these were reactive because of bumblefoot) small cyst in liver ,sludge in bladder and what is causing the pain and couldnt be seen on a 2D x-ray - a small stone on the tip of his penis bone - she is hoping to operate on him tomorrow ,as long as she is not hit with a batch of complicated emergencies - says it is a tricky op but she has done them before and she may have to turn him "into a bit of a girl" and remove part of his penis if the stone is really welded on - then thinks we need to rejig his diet - so please send us some good luck and healing vibes x -

Omg poor boy! :( Sending you both lots of good luck & healing vibes, hope she can sort it for him, bless him ! x

Oh my, that is a lot going on poor little man. Is it the specialist vet that is doing the op? Is she hopeful that is will be a success? I must admit removing the end of the penis is not something I have come across before. Has she discussed the possibility of PTS with you at all or the likely quality of life after the op?

It is the specialist piggy vet that will be doing it - she is hoping she wont have to remove any of it - but she expects to put a catheter in for 24 hours - she will only have to remove a small bit if she has to - hence saying she might have to turn him into a bit of a girl - she has 24 pets including 3 skunks and a bronze medal for team GB in the world dog agility championship at Helsinki - several piggies of her own (spays all her females ) and spayed two of my girls - Noodles was put under - spayed (and mass removed from womb ) in recovery and eating all within 20 mins - she doesnt expect his quality of life to be affected - but I will tell her in the morning that if at any point during the op she thinks that it would be kinder to put him to sleep than to proceed that she should go ahead and do what she would for her own piggies - she didnt even entertain the idea of having him put to sleep as she is confident about the operation - (she has goodness knows how many letters after her name and is doing a second post grad degree in soft tissue orthopedic surgery at the moment). All I can do is wait and see what tomorrow brings for my little man - his weight is back up and his paws are healing - he is bounding around - so hopefully he will be ok.

Sounds like he's in the very best hands. We'll have all our piggies paws and human hands crossed for good news tomorrow.

Good news so far for Bumble - hadn't heard anything by 3-30 so phoned vets to be told he was just being prepared for surgery - got a phone call from Rachael 15 mins later saying that his urethra was big enough for the catheter to go in and she had managed to flush the stone into the bladder and then flushed the stone and all the sludge in bladder and urethra out - she had to make a small incision into the bladder, but the incisions from the last op had healed well - she also burred his fractured tooth while he was under - all done in 15 mins - she will be keeping him in over the weekend and will check on him Monday as she is off tomorrow (poor woman has 24 pets and a baby under a year old) - she has taken 3 of the bandages off his feet as they are now free of bumblefoot and just keeping treating the front paw that had the deep abscess in that is healing pretty well now - so just need to keep everything crossed that he doesn't bomb in the next 24 - 48 hrs.

Sending you hugs and Bumble lots of healing vibes, keeping him in my thoughts x
