So 4 days ago I've noticed my guinea pig not eating his food, and I think he haven't ate for 5-6 days, it's like he wanted to but he couldn't, he was coming up to water tank but it's like something was stopping him from drinking. I also noticed his eyes were covered with some rust and he could t open his eyes. Since yesterday I've been feeding him blended food and vegtebales in syringe but he seems very weak and he can't poop, even though he tries to push it nothing is coming out but when he poops the poop is weird; it's thin, dry and long like two poop joined together. He seems like he's in pain and also he's just laying in one place and has no energy, doesn't make any noises when normally he's so loud and full of energy.and it's been like a week since he's been sick I don't know what to do because I won't be able to go to vet to get medications till Tuesday or more.. I'm poor and I can't help it but I would really appreciate getting some tips on how to help him survive till then or any tips on how to hell him poop without medications. Please help me ASAP I don't want to loose him :( thank you

Welcome to the forum
You need to get your piggy to a vet now as a matter of urgency.
He can’t wait until Tuesday
A piggy who doesn’t eat will very quickly deteriorate.
Can you start syringe feeding him to help his guts ?
If you don’t have critical care mush up pellets in warm water.
Keep us posted

I am sorry to hear that your guinea pig is ill - it sounds very serious and he needs to see a vet as soon as possible.
If you can let us know roughly where you live we can try and suggest a good and experienced vet.
There are also clinics that will offer veterinary care to people on low incomes, so you should explore this option as a matter of urgency.

In the short term you need to start syringe feeding to try and keep his guts working.
There is a good guide here:

Illness Support Care Guides

But really he needs to see a vet as a matter of urgency as it sounds like he will require medication.
Please have him seen before Tuesday, as by then it may be too late.

@Helpalfiepls If he hasn't eaten for so long he really needs to see a vet asap.

In the meantime you need to feed him. Guinea pig digestive systems need to have food travelling through them constantly otherwise they shut down. So you will need to feed him whilst he's not eating for himself.

If he's not pooping much then he's not eating enough do you need to increase the amount you are giving him.

Also weigh him regularly. Tracking his weight is a great way to see if he is eating enough or not.

Hi. This is an emergency. Your vet should have an emergency out of hours number. It is fatal for guinea pigs not to eat, and, unfortunately, we cannot diagnose what it may be. Tuesday will be too late if he's not eating. I hope you get something sorted with a vet asap. x

Thanks for replying, I went to emergency vet just today and they told me I have to pay £60 plus medications.. I would've afford buying some medications but the woman said I still have to pay £60 unfourtely.

Thanks for replying. I am now feeding him mushed up food mixed with water and I live in Leicester but I don't think there's any for a low price, I will sure get him medications but on Tuesday however I will try my best to get the money tomorrow and see a vet

Have you tried the PDSA?
They can help people with low income to cope with vet bills.
Alternatively you could ask your vet about a payment plan.

Hi no but I will look into it, I went to a vet today and asked if I can pay in few days because I don't have the amount of money at the moment but said I have to pay straight away..

Are you on any kind of benefit? The blue cross or PDSA may be able to help with reduced cost/free care for your piggy if so. There is one in Leicester if you're eligible Leicester PDSA Pet Hospital

For now, keep him fed every few hours with the mushed food, you will likely need to do this through the night as well if he is weak. Keep hay and something tasty nearby him so he can pick at it if he wishes. A Plastic drink bottle filled with warm water, wrapped in a sock will likely be appreciated if he is lethargic and not well, just make sure its not too warm seeing as he will be unable to move away from it if he gets too hot. All the best to you and your piggy, I hope he makes it.

Now he's making noises as if he's about to vomit, I'm trying to feed him but he seems like he had too much even though I didn't even finish giving him the food from the morning.. I'm really worried right now I'm scared he will pass away till tomorrow :(

Really sorry you are in this situation. Unfortunately once a piggy hasn't eaten for so long its hard to get them back on track but you are doing what you can. Definitely call the PDSA as soon as they open. For future reference I use Oadby Vets4Pets as they have a number of excellent and knowledgeable vets there and I know two of the local reputable rescues use them too. With them not being exotic specialists they don't carry the higher pricetag of specialist vets either.

Please don't feed if he is not able to swallow and it is going down the wrong way. never give more than a piggy can swallow in one go - if it is very weak, then that can be as little as 0.1 ml at a time.

Thank you for letting me know

Thank you for letting me know

Keep him as comfy as you can; warm but not hot and always with the option of moving away from a source of heat if he gets too hot.

Try to syringe feed every 2 hours, round the clock, as much as he will take in one sitting - getting food into him without choking him is very time consuming and draining as I know from my own experiences. Try to get as close to 5 ml in each sitting as you can.

If your piggy is becoming to apathetic to swallow properly or is fighting far in excess of his weak state, then it means that sadly the body is closing down and he is no longer able to process food. In that case, there is sadly no more you can do. :(

I am feeling for you!

I think he had too much water at once and now he's holding himself from. Vomiting for last 10min, does anyone know how to help him relieve feeling sick

Guinea pigs don't have a vomiting reflex. if fluid is coming out of his mouth, it means that he is not able to swallow and to process food anymore. Just make him as comfy and warm as you can. :(

I rushed to vet and got antibiotics, unfortunately as soon as we came come he started to choke and died. It's been 20min since he died I'm so heartbroken that he died suffering. At least I was by his side... I can't stop crying

I am so very sorry to hear this news.
Please feel free to post a tribute to him on the Rainbow Bridge Thread
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve - it takes time for grief so be patient with yourself too.

Do you have another piggy who might be missing his companion?

I'm so sorry for your loss. When a lot of piggies pass, they make little gasps for air, this is their bodies last ditch effort to get oxygen to the brain and usually they're not really aware of whats going on at this point so will not have suffered if this is what you saw.
Sending you virtual hugs, I hope grief eases to happy memories for you very soon :(
