Thanks everyone again xx
Just thought I'd update on Billy - he's maintaining weight but only eating tiny amounts & still has some blood in his wee (vet thinks it could now be his kidneys). He's been to the vets every day this week for injections & sub cut fluids - today is the first day without a vet visit so we'll see how he goes. He is eating hay & last night had a big drink (for the first time in a week) but he is having issues with veg. It seems he eats a few bits then poos then moves away, it's almost as if he is full. He's chewing normally etc, I think that whatever the vet removed has impacted on his digestive system. To be honest, I'm just trying to keep him as comfotable & relaxed as possible - he's been through so much in the last week bless him x

You're doing a brilliant job with him, he has been through a lot, he's certainly beating the odds to still be here now. To be nibbling food is fantastic at this stage, he has a long way to go in his recovery yet so any food intake of his own free will is good. As his abdomen feels less and less "strange" and sore, everything else will start to pick up too.

Sending lots more hugs. xx

Hopefully Billy will keep improving bit by bit. His appetite probably will be poor after what the poor little man has been through. My lot send their love. x

He's eating!

Yay, Billy ate all his tea, supper & breakfast & has been drinking & playing in his hay - I'm so pleased.
Still not out of the woods yet though, he's still got blood in his wee & had very soft poops this morning (putting that down to the veg overload - I should have limited it really mallethead or poss that he is on oral baytril now instead of injection), I'm glad he seems more like his usual self though.
I think that not going to the vets every day for injections etc has done him the world of good to be honest xx

I am so sorry actually pee'd off with myself that i did not see this thread mallethead:red

Excellent news that he is eating, I am *so* pleased for Billy and for you. xx

Thanks everyone xx
Billy is still eating well, biting the bars at veg time & acting like normal, however he still has blood in his wee & has started to lose weight again. I also 'think' I heard him cry a little when weeing yesterday 8... Went to the vets last night & he's put him back on septrin & metacam & he's having cytease. I think the stones are back - the vet gave me the dreaded options if no improvement after 10 days: xray & surgery if there are stones again or PTS. I'm so upset & just don't know what to do for the best. I know that if he has surgery the stones will almost definitely come back plus he's had 2 ops in the last 2 weeks & I don't know how much more he can take. Also hubby says he doesn't want to have him cut open again :( Then the PTS option - I can't even consider it when he's running up & down excited for veg. Obviously I would never let him get to a stage where he is in pain but at the moment he seems to be doing ok. It's a nightmare 8...

Oh honey, poor you, i had all this with my beautiful Pepper a few weeks ago, i had to make the decision because he needed the op again after a few weeks after having his first (huge) stone removed, for the last 6 or 7 weeks of his life he sqeaked everytime he peed :( It was really really distressing for me, having said that, like yours Pepper was completely eating, happy, running round etc, but i decided not to put him through the op again for four reasons:

a/ if it happened so soon after the first op, he would surely keep needing the op
b/ he had lost so much weight i didnt think he would survive it anyway
c/ he had been messed about with so much, and taken that many meds, and;
d/ on his last day, at 3.45am his bladder was completely full and nothing was coming out and he was in agony, i couldnt bear for this to happen again one day when i was at work and for him to suffer all day long

hence, PTS :( 8... :0................ i am happy with my decision now but i miss him soooo much :( I hope any of this helps you with your situation.

You have done so well with him, and i have followed your post, i am sorry it may have come to this for you (hugs) :)

Thanks doglovinpiggylover, I'm so sorry that you had to go through this too xx
Point (d) does worry me the most 8...
I suppose I'm hoping for some sort of miracle really :(

point d was the crucial thing, it was awful, and something i never want to see again, i sat up with him the whole night, and decided there and then, sat on my own, with no input, and i was drunk and very emotional, but i defo know it was the right thing, his body had been through enough x

We're all hoping for a miracle... Billy has held on for so long now. I'm not very experienced with piggys but from what I've seen a piggy who is dying will go downhill quickly. Billy clearly has a will to live!

This was also the time i was desperately trying to join this forum, i really really would have loved to have had the help and advice available here, but for some reason my account wouldnt work at first, anyway, no big deal, just could have really done with the support, but i have had it since then.

Also, just feel the need to say i was drunk as i had been socialising, i wasnt just sat here getting drunk because of Pepper, him being so ill sobered me up completely.

And, can i also say, my vet was brilliant, she had rung me every other day with advice and tips that she had picked up while investigating on the web, and i was so pleased when i called the emergency vet number and she was on call so i didnt have to go into it all and explain why i was ringing, she knew and she knew what to do and what to say. She also didnt charge me the call out fee, how generous is that. I think she was as upset as me, just goes to show they do have hearts and its not all about money. She was almost willing Pepper to get through it as much as i was.

Anyway, thats it, i need to do some work! :p

my vet also recommended something called potassium citrate, which if i remember right i was advised to give him daily to help stop the crystals forming, dont know if this will be any help for Billy, you could maybe ask Laura or your vet.

If i think of anything else i will let you know x

Very sorry to hear that he seems to be experiencing some pain again but I'm glad that his will to live is still giving you hope. Also hoping for the best for you both x

I'm sorry things don't seem to be getting any easier, my heart goes out to you and Billy. It is encouraging that he does seem to be bright in himself but I can see just what you mean, it makes the prospect of any decisions more difficult. I really hope it is "just" an infection this time and clears up with the meds.
xx

Just thought I'd update on Billy for you ...
He's still pretty much the same as he was when I last posted but had the worst runy poo I have ever seen yesterday. It was dreadful & I didn't expect him to recover but he amazed me again & it sems to have cleared up (with the help of no veg/medicines & diorylite & probiotics). He has lost a fair bit of weight again but I'm putting that down to yesterday's events. I honestly don't know how he keeps going - he's such a little fighter pow-pow

get in there Billy, what a clever boy.

Still have all my fingers and family paws crossed for you both x

:)

(how much does he weigh?)

Thanks hun xx

He weighed 984g this morning :( His top ever weight was just short of 1450g so it's a massive difference & he looks so small now 8...

my god its just like peppy was, he was a MASSIVE 1500 then went down to 900, but he was eating loads and was very interested in his food which i found weird.

Pepper attempted to pee every ten minutes from the moment he started sqeaking you know, does billy do this? It never went away after it started. I felt so sorry for him, i have a video of him doing it and it breaks my heart watching it, but it is one of the later ones of him so i need to keep it.

I think deep down he went because his mate died, it was almost as if i lost Salt one day and the next day Pepper started :( I really hope you have a happy ending it would be so rewarding after all Billy has been through x
