So I'd just fed piggies, all fine, taking food bowls out... hmm that red pepper made a mess in almost looks like blood! Its not is it?! Well Blod and Piggle are fine... Jezzy and Puggle fine... Theo is fine... where's Clover...? Clover?!
Blood everywhere! Major panic and trying to capture an injured Clover... luckily just a bad torn nail but it was torn hanging off and trailing and catching and so much blood!
Luckily it was 5 minutes before the vet closed and I phoned them on the off chance I might get an appointment for tomorrow, but head vet Dr Clare, angel that she is, agreed to see Clover straight away. Naughty nail fully removed with much blood and squealing and terror from poor Clover who only just recently came to terms with normal nail trims! Loxicom prescribed, 0.6mls cat loxicom twice daily so it must be quite sore. Poor old big pig was in such a state when she got home, just peeing everywhere and shaking with stress, and Dr Clare is so nice, that must be a very sore toe! Had her loxicom and parsley reward and gone home to hide... the other piggies are very concerned!
Please send healing wheeks, its a very minor injury but Clover is very traumatised, I wonder if this has happened before and thats why she really hates nail trims or her feet touching, we'd just nicely got past that and now we'll have to start all over again :(

Poor Clover and poor you! I hope that it is all settling down over the next couple of days once the toe starts healing and is no longer so painful.

I guess that it is going to be a very special thank you care to Dr Clare!

Thank you! Poor old big pig, its sad she is still disproportionately scared of handling after she came to us with an untreated badly healed broken leg 18 months ago, she's still only just learning to trust us :(
But Dr Clare Bertram is amazing, how many head vets would offer to stay open half an hour later than usual after a full surgery when they had no appointments left for a sore guinea pig toe? That's really amazingly kind of her, I offered to wait until tomorrow but she said she didn't want Clover in pain overnight or us having the expense of a trip to the out of hours vet if the bleeding didnt stop!

I do really love our vets, whoever we speak to on the phone always asks if the animal is in any kind of pain and if the answer is yes then they automatically make it an emergency same day appointment, usually within an hour or two, even if it is a sore toe or a mild UTI that you tell them would wait 24 hours! :)

Oh, baby girl! 😢 Sending you all the love in the world little princess. 💕

I hope you are okay too, hun. What a scare!

Oh my poor you and Clover.
Well done for spoting this and acting so quick and massive love to vet who is a hero.
Big huddles and cuddles to you from me and to Glover from my two piggies. xx

Poor Hapus is still getting over the freak out she had during the pre-op examination with Simon...
She is fine in her normal setting but take her out and she is all lost. Unfortunately, I couldn't take her companion Heilin because she is an even worse freaker; it would have likely caused another IC flare for Heilin. :(

I feel for Clover!

Stupid question. Sorry. But will the nail grow back? Ever?

Hope you both get over this incident quickly x
I think it will grow back but maybe not quite right, possibly thicker and curlier than her thick curly nails were anyway!
Clover is still hiding in a hidey castle (which luckily I had just put a clean fleecy pad in) and brave little husboar Theo is "on guard" outside to stop anyone hurting his boss lady's toes, and the other ladies keep coming up to visit very politely and check she's ok! They are so caring with each other when anypig is unwell :)

OUCH WOUCH NOUCH! Poor Big Pig Clover that sounds very painful! My lot send healing wheaky wheaks and a big healing licks.

Hope Clover is better soon. Poor soul. The loxicim will probably be for the inflammation as well as the pain. As I imagine the toe will be inflamed. Your Vet sounds amazing.

Only just seen this post. Sorry to hear poor Clover hurt herself. Hope she makes a speedy recovery.xx
