Poops

I think it must be something to do with their "curves" in that area as neutered boars have smaller poops too.

Most of my boys have been unneutered and have big banana poops. It's weird isn't it?!

i'm curious, all my girls have nice neat poos, yet all my boys are nearly twice as long. Anyone know why. Lol

This is because boars develop a perineal sac when their testicles descend (basically a somewhat elastic canal between their testicles that connects the guts with the anus, which has been pushed further out by the descending testicles). It is in that area just before the anal opening that the poos are formed. Generally poos in neutered boars are shorter than in full boars as they have their testicles removed and the perineal or anal sac is shrinking again.

For the same reasons neutered boars can suffer from impaction, too, but they don't have the kind of massive stinky build-up of mushy caecotrophs (redigested) poos in the anal sac that full boars can suffer from.

@Wiebke are those that do bigger poos more likely to suffer impaction then? :) Mo does huge poos (I showd this in a previous thread) and so did my sow Vinny.

No. Impaction is caused by a general weakening of the muscles at the back end, which include the muscles that propel the poos out of the body.
The size or presence of testicles (which determine how big the perineal sac is and therefore how long poos can get) has nothing whatsoever to do with it! Neutered boars can get impaction the same as full boars. They just don't have the storage capacity for a big build up, that is all. ;)

What a lovely subject! :P can't poos differ a lot from pig to pig? Beans has always done huge monster poos, while Toast does little ones :xd:

Wow! I'd always wondered this :) Please to have found an answer

Poos differ from pig to pig. But boar poos (unless yours has been neutered for a goodly while) are usually longer than sow poos once the testicles have descended.

Oh thank you! That definitely makes it clearer for me - :)
