Poorly Baby Pig

I think you can put it in the washing machine but am not 100% certain, I know some people soak in F10 first and then put in the machine after?

Ah okay. That sounds like a smart idea.

Honestly, between her and me both having it Idk how I am going to contain it >.< Being very very tight on quarantine, I won't even kiss my OH at the moment. But with it being so cold I can't open the windows to air the ruddy room out >.<

Have you seen our Ringworm guide?

I have, yep. I'm scrubbing and cleaning and disinfecting and keeping all my clothing etc separate from the rest of the house. I'm showering with antifungal shampoo and scrubbing myself raw, then slathering myself with Daktarin. I have a separate towel too. I'm hoovering and cleaning out my hoover. Everything is being washed hot and tumble dried hot. And I am not going anywhere near my big girls, which is breaking my heart >.<

I feel super priveleged right now.

On Friday I panic emailed Simon Maddock for his opinion on itrafungol after Guinea Lynx spooked me. He's just called me and had a lovely chat with me about Ceri and is happy with the treatment she's receiving, explained that it will also have some antibacterial benefits for her as well and that he would have done exactly the same. Wonderful, kind man :)

I think you are doing everything you can at this stage. It must be so hard.

That's brilliant, Simon is lovely and really does put your mind at rest.

That's great he made you feel better. Hearing it from an experienced vet that uses the medication all the time makes all the difference.

Ceridwen had her first bath last night. It was a supremely stressful experience for us all but we got through it, and I have to say, for all my concern about bathing her, we have seen the benefit this morning. Her skin on her bald patch is soft and smooth this morning rather than being flaky, and the sore bits on her ears are much less inflamed. The skin has gone ashy and sort of powdery looking, which I'm assuming is the acute stage where this batch of fungus is starting to die off? Idk, she just looks better in general. Starting to see real improvement on all fronts.

That's good. Piggies don't enjoy baths as you discovered. Sometimes it is necessary though.

Yeah, I've only ever had one that did, my darling Crumbs, she LOVED a good bath. but this was particularly difficult, she's so tiny and wriggly, and I was really worried about getting her face wet or her licking the shampoo while it soaked in. I hugged her in a towel while it did it's stuff and sang to her like she was a baby to keep her calm >.>

Really? What a strange guinea pig! My rainbow piggies used to get filthy idk why so I gave them a 2 baths a year, once in spring and once in the autumn and they got used to it but never enjoyed it.

Yeah, she was a special one. She was a sheltie, so needed bathing quite regularly, and she would sit in the bowl and close her eyes with her chin resting on the rim while I cleaned her. She was a very placid girl though. The others all HATE it. It's a two man operation in our house when it's necessary to do it.

I am so pleased that she is looking better. I can't begin to imagine how stressful that must have been, I know my 2 scare the hell out of me with how wriggly they are and that is while dry. Well done for getting through that.

I may have had a little cry at one point >.>

Glad it went ok and was not as stressful as first thought. Crumbs sounded adorable. Mine tend to just paddle up and down though my late Nigel used to jump straight back out again and into my arms. I swear he was on springs.

Guh, so we had a little accident last night... Ceri was at the side of the cage, the door was open and it fell... She's got a little bruise on her lip about the size of a pinhead and a small chip in one incisor... She's eating fine and happy enough in herself so I'm hoping it will just wear down but I am devastated...

Oh poor angel, accidents happen. Is good that she is eating ok. The incisors do usually wear down ok, but check with Simon if you are worried.

I'm keeping a really close eye. I've had a break down to the root before and that came back in within about a week. So I'm not in full on panic mode. but very upset. I feel horribly guilty. She comes running up to the side to see me, she was up there because she wanted attention... I should have been more careful...

It's not your fault. cage lids can be so flimsy. Has it put her off coming to the side?

It did last night, she was very put out by the whole ordeal. I got rumbled at when I stroked her and everything. But this morning she was back up there again, however this time the door was closed. I'm not risking it happen again. She hoovered up all her veggies, I made sure she was able to tear still, and I watched her eat nice thick strands of hay, so I think we're good. Just not what we need right now. I'm just hoping it doesn't split all the way up. She's got some discolouration, it's sort of off-yellow, i think it's either bruising on the tooth or she's lost the top layer. it's hard to tell.

Sounds like she is not spooked anymore which is good. 2 of mine have lower incisor issues which they see Simon for regularly and they eat really well, even between dentals. Hopefully her incisors will even up in a few days.
