Poorly Baby Pig

She will love that, bet you get lots of zoomies.

Oh I reckon I will, she's already a super lappy pig. She throws herself off the sides of the cage like she's in a half pipe. Very excited to be upgrading her. Now we know how long she's going to be in quarantine for I'm not happy to leave her in the pet shop cage. She's gonna be in her element :)

Oh bless, that must have been awful for you. I did that more than once with the quarantine cage, it was just good luck they weren't hurt. I hate those things and their stupid doors.

I was hysterical, my OH had to send me out of the room to calm down. I can't wait to get home now and check on her. I just want it to have not gotten any worse...

Hm... So just spoken to the receptionist at my vets and apparently our nasal swab results may not be in until Monday... not tomorrow as originally anticipated.

The issue is, apart from 3 more days stress, if it doesn't come in tomorrow, Ceri's third week on AB's will be up tomorrow. And my vet doesn't work Friday's. So if it doesn't come in, I then don't know if I should continue the sulfatrim over the weekend or stop it... She's still sneezing...

Looks like Ceri is suffering a little with side effects from the itraconazole. Last night she was squeaking while pooping. Definitely pooping, not when she pees. I've seen her pee and it looks fine. No cloudiness or colour. I cut her back to very basic lettuce and peppers for her veg last night, just plain timothy hay too. no readigrass or alfalfa and no Emeraid or Critical Care. And I gave her two lots of fibreplex either side of her meds and syringed her as much water as she would take last night and this morning. This morning it seems to have stopped. She was very very bright in herself, not behaving as if she's in pain. She was popcorning and running laps pretty much all morning. In fact, she started wheeking at four o'clock in the morning when she heard me roll over in bed and has been in a super good mood since. I'm praying it is just that her tummy is a little sensitive and we're not looking at a bladder issue...

Hopefully its just a slight tummy upset or a little constipation. I'm sure it will pass and she will be fine. xx

Her poos were pretty hard last night actually. I got some out and pressed them between my fingers and it took a lot of pressure to crush them. And they'd only been in there about an hour....

Hm. I might give her some mashed pumpkin when I get in, see what that does.

Ah! A quick google of trafungol side effects does list constipation as a side effect! Right. More fibre and careful monitoring when I get in this evening.

I think a stone is unlikely at her age. Does sound like the meds.

Thank you, Helen, that does make me feel a lot better. I will keep boosting her fibre and water intake.

She's actually stopped sneezing in the last day or so (whoopee!) I think we had one last night and one yesterday morning. So hopefully the culture will come back without any nasties and we can take her off the antibiotics and the biosolvon and that will ease some of the pressure on her digestive tract.

Out of interest, before I speak to my vet, can you reduce the dosage of itraconazole and it still be effective? She's got two weeks of treatment left on it, and if it is the culprit I don't want her to be in pain for another fortnight...

I think you can, is she on it once or twice a day? if once you can split the dose so she has less each time. Though sometimes it works the other way and it better to have it all in one go so the tummy can adjust for the rest of the day. I think if the dose is lowered she may need to be on it slightly longer.

Am having similar issues with my Fuzzy at the moment who has reacted to Septrin of all things so have got her on a lower dose but for a longer period.

It's once a day, 0.18ml. My regular vet is out today but one of her team is calling me when she's out of consultations, so I'll discuss it with her. Ceri reacted to TMZ too, she got -horrific- diarrhea for the first 72 hours on it. Poor Fuzzy :( I hope her tummy settles soon. Poop soup!

Poor girl. Thank you, I hope so.

Hope your vet can suggest something. Maybe splitting it would help.

Spoken to the vets. She's happy to stop the AB for the time being but continue the nebulisation. Culture still hasn't come in yet.

Regarding the squeaking when pooping, she's advised 0.13ml Zantac twice a day to see if this helps improve things and just monitor for a couple of days. Fingers crossed it's just a result of the meds. She's not wanting to rush her in for an x-ray. so hopefully it'll settle very soon.

Ceridwen is doing much better this morning. The squeaking while pooping has stopped. Last night when I got in she seemed quiet and miserable, she really frightened me. I think the meds combo had really reached the limit for her. I gave her a paste of pumpkin, emeraid, critical care and donor poop from a healthy pig, she perked up after the first couple of syringes were a fight to get into her, and then she started really chowing down and trying to take the syringe. We gave her the zantac too and an hour later she was back to running laps.

We also moved her into a 2x4 C&C and she is loving it. This morning I woke up to see her sat in the pile of hay in the middle, eating happily and looking her bright and perky self.

She's eating most of her poops atm, so clearly her gut is still feeling rough. I'm going to pump her with probiotic every couple of hours while I am home for the weekend.
