Poorly Billy - Long Term Meds Question

Finding it so stressful giving Billy his medicines. He is stressed, I am stressed. I just can't do it.

It's mainly the anti biotic, anything in a syringe he is just phobic of!

Is there anything I can put it in or something altho I don't think he will take it in juice. I've just had to wash his face either I end up wearing it or he does! He is terrible.

He will pick up on your stress and it will make him worse. You need to keep calm and you will find things much easier. Just hold his head firmly and syringe the medicine in. It will be over and done with quickly and then give him something he enjoys to eat. It's all about having confidence in yourself. I am currently doing daily injections for a piggy and although I have done injections for rabbits and guinea pigs for a few years now, I suddenly felt I had lost my confidence and while I was thinking like that I couldn't do it. I had to tell myself that I could do them and my confidence soon returned. We all have times when we feel out of our depth, but just take a deep breath, calm yourself down and you will find that as you feel more confident it will go so much better.

Hi Everyone,

Billy is having a very merry Christmas - he has gained 100g (yikes!) and is doing so well his pain relief has been reduced. Thank you all for the advice ref medicines, I googled & found a new technique which is working wonders. It is now a stress free & quick procedure.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas x

Another little update - Billy continues to do amazing & is basically back to normal. Still texting the vet fortnightly updates & continuing the anti biotic but reduced pain relief again to just once a day... (Don't actually think he needs any now!).

What a clever little ginger boy
