Thanks Louise that means alot, i have had his brother out to comfort him and he just peed on my laptop thinbk its a sign. I hope you dont have to face this decision. Thank you for your support and positive thoughts. x

I asked a reasonable question. If you thought it tactless can I, politely, ask how you would phrase the question?
So far this year I have had 6 pigs of my own die and another 6 that were here as patients. I am always prepared to answer any question, however it is put to me, in whatever way, even if I am being criticised. Only by doing this can any of us advance our knowledge.
I can sympathise with you in your loss. No, it doesn't get any easier, any death is a unique event and, as such, brings with it new emotions.

I'm so sorry! Sleep well Dylan! I hope his little brother is ok.

I think it is important to remember that we all deal with the loss of our precious pets in different ways. There being no right or wrong way! It's important to respect how someone wants to deal with this, and maybe not ask too many questions when feelings are still very raw.

I have just seen this thread and i'm so very very sorry for you all 8...8...8...
RIP little Piggie you tried so hard, run free at the bridge, have fun popcorning and munching on the dandelions and clover xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) and loves to you all from us xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm sorry you had to make such a hard decision, you did it out of love for your little piggie xx
Another little star twinkling in the sky ......:(

Alcester i am really pleased that you can answer questions in such a way, although please bear in mind people are not all people the same as yourself and a little compassion would not go a miss in a diffiucult time. Which i believe is general common sense. I apologise if this is abrupt but i deal with people the way i have been treat.

You are obviously very upset by having your pig put down.
I cannot believe you literally mean what you said as quoted above. It implies that if, as a soon to be student nurse, you were "badly treated" by a patient you would respond in a like manner to them. It would be good for you to edit your post to correct what was written during a difficult time.

I agree Kate. Alcester please refer to post number 20 'I thank all of you on here for the support and advice over the last few days. I also know that some of you will have your own thoeries etc, please bear in mind that i have had to make an hard decision and i am very upset and dont think any of your theories are going to help me or Dylan, So please keep them to yourself.' and need not say anymore. Thank you. Please respect my wishes.

This may be construed as being off topic – in which case I apologise – but I have wanted to say this for a while, and now seems as good a time as any

Alcester – I am a huge fan of yours and your obvious guinea pig knowledge has been invaluable in many circumstances, to many people on here – and I understand you want to learn what you can from other peoples experiences.

HOWEVER ...

Most of us are are ‘just’ pet owners – we HAVE to put our trust in our vets. If we take a beloved pet to a vet and they advise us what to do (whether it is to treat them, or put then to sleep) we generally follow their advice. Yes, we can post threads on here and talk to other people and get other opinions - we can even try getting second opinions from other vets – however if we have a guinea pig we believe to be in pain, there is only so long we can spend ‘researching’ the best thing to do.

Since joining the forum, I am much more confident at the vets in asking for certain treatment and talking to the vet about what is best …. but they have done the training and they are the qualified person … and I have to put my faith in them to do what is right at the end of the day.

If I have upset anyone I apologise - I just wanted to write this from the viewpoint of someone who is ‘just’ a pet owner.

My thoughts are still with you, Andrewpeel, and your remaining piggie.

Rach x
