Poorly Lily

Well there has been a huge improvement in lily but she's still a little dirty and I think I can see a little discharge still so we are going back tomorrow (with Donald but I will update his thread too). I will mention the suggestion that the baytril dose is low and maybe should be twice daily to get on top of this.
 
So there was definite improvement for Lily but not enough improvement. We are now on 0.46 of baytril twice daily and hopefully within the next ten days we are all clear and back to normal
 
Well Lily still isn't right. Her weight has gone back up and her genitals aren't swollen but she's still dirty down below and there is often discharge there when I get her out for her medication twice a day. We are on to day 10 of the increase dose of antibiotics now so I don't hold any hope that they are going to solve the problem. Waiting for Michelle to give me a call today to talk about next steps

I hope Michelle can offer you something that will clear Lily’s discharge up. Maybe a different antibiotic to try?
 
Keeping you and Lily in my thoughts- it’s tough when a beloved piggy is ill and we can’t make them better instantly
 
Well the vet just called and we are going for a referral to Hinckley for some further tests which are likely to be under anaesthetic given Lily's fiesty nature and trying to identify exactly what the problem is
 
Hope that when the referral is made you will get somewhere towards finding out what is going on x

Hugs to Lily & you Kelly, I hope things go well. Once you know what's wrong you can deal with it, it's the not knowing. If it is Pyometra why are they not spaying her?

It was believed to be pyometra in the early stages which should have been resolved by antibiotics so the fear is that there is something we have missed. They tried ultrasound but were unsuccessful in getting a clear image so didn't charge me. They wanted to refer so if she needs a whiff of gas for scans they can go ahead and operate immediately if necessary rather than risk gassing her at my usual vets and for them not to be certain of the best way forward.
 
@Lady Kelly Let us know how it goes with the specialists please. It's worth having the contact details for a vet closer to hand for emergencies and when the Maddock's are away.

My vet speaks highly of them so it will be interesting to see. I think my vets prefer them as Chine House are a bit slow in feeding back and sometimes they never get feedback anyway
 
We had issues getting Anselmo's file transferred from Chine House. They have quite a few members of staff though so not sure why...
 
I'm not overly impressed with the specialist vets they referred me too. She didn't seem interested in finding out why. Told me to get some hibiscrub and clean her twice a day and see if it disappears and also to stop antibiotics as there should be no infection now. They told me all about ovarian cysts but didn't want to scan etc.

Basically just a stop all meds and see what happens next which is not ideal in my books. Quite a drive and an expensive £58 for nothing really.
 
If you can limp your way through until 3rd September, I’d suggest you go and see Simon or Kim. You’ll definitely get a diagnosis and a way forward. They’re both very experienced in these type of issues and if she does need a spay, Simon has done more than other vets, as he did all the neutering for Rabbit and Guinea pig welfare.
