Poppy's having an xray at the vets

Despite giving poppy 0.4mls twice a day of metacam as I have been doing 2 days previous, she's still whimpering in pain. (the vets never gave me anything until the tramadol arrives Wednesday) i'm syringe feeding as well as shes lost a bit of weight. She is eating some Hay but is hiding away more than usual. I'm wondering if i should take up the lovely @Bill & Ted offer of having her appointment on Wednesday with Simon. I'm not sure what to do. I'm running low on metacam so can't increase it. She's also still got diarrhea, this will be her 3rd day. It also sounds like she's passing wind and then maybe pooing(sorry to be so graphic) when she's making the painful sounds.

Its a difficult one. Only you and Bill and Ted can really decide. But whichever pig needs it most I guess

The thing is the tramadol should be available to collect Wednesday but I don't know what they'll dose as the vet thinks guinea pigs should have very small amounts of metacam once a day .I'm also concerned about the diarrhea and the fact that she seems to be whimpering quite often and it sounds like she's trying to do a poo.(from the sounds I mentioned in my last post)

Definitely x

I think I will take your appointment to be on the safe side, don't know how we'll go about it though xx
Yes I know, I was trying to think how best to do it. Any ideas. I could ring up and cancel on Tuesday at 4.00 and then you could ring up desperate at 4.02? Have a think? Do you think they have a waiting list for cases?
Anybody else got any ideas?
Or Would it be best if you rang and saw what the situation is with regards appointments and say you can have my appointment?

Given that so many forum members go to Simon, they must be aware that we know each other.
@Bill & Ted if you phone and say you can’t come because of travel restrictions but you know Gemma is in real need and ask if it’s ok for her to take your slot, they can say if that’s ok or not.
Then you and Gemma can talk directly with each other.
Hope it will work out well.

Yes that sounds fine the only worry is if they have formed a waiting list while Simon and Kim are on holiday?
sorry to bother you Debbie @furryfriends (TEAS) can you suggest the best way of letting @Gem789 take Ted’s appointment for her poorly piggie on Wednesday?

Just ring and say what you want to do. I’m sure they’ll be happy to sort it.

Aah poor little girly :( good she’s still eating a bit on her own though, did you get the appt all sorted for her? xx

Thanks Debbie, we were just a bit worried in case they said there was a waiting list. Simon’s so popular! I’ll get in touch with with @Gem789 and get her details
I don't think they're as busy as normal, due to not doing routine stuff. I guess this week might be a bit busier, as Simon and Kim were off last week. x

My old boy sky had arthritis, I think I still have the paper work of how much the dose of painkiller was. It was dog metacam and he weighed about 1kg. Sky would wimper in pain on and off and do a bit of teeth chattering. He was diagnosed by Kim.

They give much higher doses now, than they gave a few years ago.

What started this? More research?
Yes, it used to be thought it could cause renal failure, in higher doses or if given long term, but guinea pigs metabolise medication so quickly. I’ve known some vets prescribe up to 1 ml of dog Metacam, twice daily.

If you need any help with setting up a cage to suit arthritis, i had to go through all this. And it was actually not bad to sort.

I tried oxbow joint care biscuit pellets thing. No pig seems to want to eat them. And they are low on glucosamine. I didn't see Sky's arthiritis progress much because a few months or so down the line he got chin lumps which were cancerous and nothing could be done. Diagnosed by Simon.

Sky was 7 at this point, so I just let him get on with life
