Sorry I haven't been on the forum much lately. I've been busy trying to get the garden ready for all the veggies that need growing ( primarily for our ravenous piglets).
I need some positive vibes for Wally Whiskers, he's at the vets today because he lost a lot of weight over the weekend and stopped eating this morning. Vicki thinks it might be a small spur bothering him ( he's been dribbling a lot today )so she's putting him under and if that's what the problem is she'll rasp it. If not he'll need a blood test to find out what the problem is. Finger's crossed it's straight forward and his weight loss doesn't affect his reaction to the G.A. He's done so well to get over having his eye out, I can't believe it's less than 2 months since his op and Yoshi's passing and we're back at the vets for another G.A. :(

Good luck for Wally Whiskers - must be v worrying to have another GA. Come on Wally (again)! You can do it!

PS On a calmer day, please post some pics of your veggies - i could do with inspiration for my raised beds that are about to be built...

Lots of vibes for Wally, hope all goes fine. Let us know how your little boy gets on x

The vet's just called, he's under at the moment - he has a tiny bit of overgrowth on his molars ( she'll rasp them) but she's also found a pocket of "stuff" at the very back of his mouth in an awkward spot so she's taking swabs now ( for labs) and x-rays to get a clearer idea, she doesn't think it's an abcess draining because there isn't any pus. He ate some dandelion leaves before she knocked him out apparently so that's a good sign ( that he hasn't given up and isn't too miserable).

There wasn't any puss in my boys abscess straight away, they need to ripen before there is any puss. I hope you don't think i am saying your vet is wrong as i am not in any way, just thought i would share my experience. Fingers crossed honey xx

She said there was a bit of hay there that she managed to pull out, doesn't think it's an abcess as I said but I don't think she's discounted anything. She is quite thorough ( hence our enormous vets bills - no stone left unturned!) which is why she's doing a plate of four x rays and labs on the swab. She also wants the swab so that she can prescribe the most appropriate antibiotic. I'll mention what you said about the ripening but I'm pretty sure I have some vague memory of discussing ripening abcesses at some point in the not to distant past with our vets so would imagine she's already aware of that. x

Aw no worries, hopefully it was just a swelling from the hay poke maybe?

Healing vibes on their way though x

Well he's back home and awake but with a very sore mouth. The next big trick is to get him to eat something.
As usual we've come home with a cornucopia of pharmaceauticals, baytril ( he's had it before and is fine with it btw), Metacam,gut stimulant and a new whopping syringe for feeding CC.
Piggy Daddy has been instructed to stop at Sainsburys on the way home for parsley and Daktarin.
Swab results will hopefully be back in a day or so.
Get better soon Wally Whiskers, Mummy's nerves are fried and dear son is fed up with trips to the vets ( I did explain that the piggies would certainly rather not be going all of the time either and my purse would heave a sigh of relief if it could have a rest).

It is so horrible to have to give him so many medications. I really hope he gets better soon poor baby.

Does anyone know if it's okay for him to have Daktarin while he's on antibiotics? The vet said it was okay if it was mainly a topical painkiller and nothing else but I've just had a look at the box and it has antibacterial and antifungal properties too.

Wishing you and poor Wally the best of luck and a good recovery. Piggies are usually rather sore and off food after work in their mouth, so your vet is doing her best by trying to keep the pain down and his appetite/digestion up as much as possible.

Thanks Wiebke. He's not very happy at the moment, just wants to sleep and isn't interested in food, he was like that for 48 hours last time he had a G.A when his eye was taken out. I've managed to get a bit of CC into him every few hours, hopefully he'll start perking up soon.

Just made him a parsley, cucumber and grass smoothie which he actually seemed to enjoy. He managed about 10 to 15 mls. I'll try him again in a bit.

Yummy, i love smoothies! Prefer fruity ones though :))

Well done wally, keep it up xx

Oh heck just seen this thread! :{

COME ON WALLY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Whee send uber munching wheeeeeeeeeeeeeky loves and vibes for Wally Whiskers XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I'm not sure mouthing one blade of grass counts really. :( He's had a tiny bit of smoothie this evening but it really is a tiny bit. I'll try him with more CC later but he doesn't like it at all, and I've tried every type of delivery method, large syringe, small syringe, plastic eye dropper, spoon, end of finger. :{
Before he had his eye removed he would stay between 1250g and 1100g. After his op he dropped to 1100g and stayed there but I wasn't too concerned as he was happy, eating and staying steady at 1100g.
In the past three days with his mouth problems and GA he's dropped to 900g which is quite alarming. I do hope he perks up by tomorrow and it's just the GA that's affecting him at the mo like last time ( he hardly ate all weekend after his eye removal and then suddenly perked up and went back to normal eating mode).
Keep those positive vibes coming guys, much appreciated. x

Come on wally...!

Just a thought but have you tryed feeding him with a 1ml syringe with the end cut off...?
(I can't remember who told me to do it) but i find it the easiest way to force feed...
Fingers crossed...!
And p.s. Your piggie smoothies sound lush... :)
