It never rains but it pours here. I have reduced my numbers of animals by more than half (gradually), and yet I seem to have just as many stressful ill animal days as before! rolleyes

Cassie's breathing isn't right at all today - she sounds snotty. Given the weather and pollen count today, I strongly suspect hayfever, but obviously there is a chance that that is coincedence and it is actually a URI.

I gave her some Bisolvon earlier, which seemed to help, but she is now making the noise again. I'm never sure how often I can dose with Bisolvon. I know it's a prescription medicine, but I had some in the drawer...

The other things I have handy are Piriton children's syrup, and Nose Relief homeopathic drops, which don't seem to have an expiry date on but are unopened.

Obviously if I need to, I'll be taking her to the vets (my 2nd home), but any thoughts would be appreciated.

You could also try a dab of vicks on the nose or children's sudafed syrup 0.2 ml twice daily (available from the pharmacy) to ease the immediate symptoms.

I agree, it could be either. I'd be a little reluctant to dose with Piriton without having a URI ruled out for sure, as the symptoms have come on so suddenly. For now, Sudafed Expectorant may help. I know the vets probably know your face very well by now, but if her breathing still isn't right tomorrow I do have to suggest another trip.....

One of my poorly inpatients had a four day stay with Vedra as he developed diaphragmatic breathing, where the breaths come from right down in their rumps. His problem wasn't respiratory at all, it was more to do with digestion, but we did consider allergy and infection at first.

Bisolvon can be given 2-3x daily, a "salt spoon sized scoop" - recalling from the occasion when Jasmine had a mild URI.

Thanks both. x

I've actually got an appointment for Holly on Saturday, so I'll sneak her in on that appointment if need be (unless things deterioriate obviously).

I'm about... 75% sure it's hayfever, as the window has been open, she went outside yesterday, and my OH is suffering a lot today etc, but obviously 25% of me thinks it could be a URI.

My Sudafed went out of date long ago, unfortunately. I'll give her another dose of Bisolvon before bed...

Just to update, Cassie is no worse today, maybe even slightly better. I've booked her in for the vets tomorrow with Holly though. No doubt I'll come back with antibiotics, but I'd obviously rather err on the side of caution.

Cassie went to the vets yesterday, and by the time she went she was making no noise at all. The vet said one lung was slightly congested but the other clear. She thinks hayfever and didn't want to do anything unless it starts to cause issues.

In other news, her weight is still going up. :( Vet thinks her metabolism is slowing right down.
