I can't believe I'm even thinking about another guinea pig. As 7 do take some looking after.

However a lady at work has been talking about her guinea pigs. She had two girls. One has unfortunately passed away and the other is now on her own. The lady doesn't want any more guinea pigs as her children have grown up and are no longer interested in them.

Everyone at work automatically came to me to tell me about this piggy. After speaking with her today I've found out that the lonely girl has the blues pretty badly. She isn't taking the loss of her friend very well. I've been told this girl is 3 years old, has an extra toe on two feet and only has one eye. She's been through the wars bless her.

I'm going into work later to talk to her a bit more about it. I would love to take her on, as the lady is considering putting her to sleep as she thinks nobody would want to adopt her with her 'unique' look.

I'm not sure about where she would slot in (if at all) with my herd I have at the moment. So I've got to think things through.

I would take her in an instant, poor little thing. Even if you weren't able to mingle her in with your own, even being next to other piggies would help her, poor pig :(

:D I thought that two more pigs would not make much difference, as I had six already. But I am having to buy veg and greens more often. If you decide not to take this poor little girl, perhaps your friend would give her to a Rescue, and give her a second chance at a happy life? To think of putting her to sleep, just because she looks odd!

(Cuy's have extra toes.If she is a very BIG pig, she might be a Cuy. In which case, she will need twice as much food!)

I've been to speak to her this afternoon. I'm taking her in. She's coming tomorrow morning. Apparently the lady got her from a Rescue. She has extra toes due to inbreeding. Apparently she's a very placid and submissive girl so we will see how it goes. :)

:yahoo: Well done, you! I hope everything works out okay with the new girl. Does she have a name? We'd love to see some photos!

How awful that PTS was considered by the lady although I'm not sure a good vet would do that for that reason. I know my vet wouldn't.

But well done for taking her on. I hope that things work out and I look forward to seeing photo's :)

Oh good! So happy she'll have a good home and not get put down because she looks different. I bet she's beautiful:drool:

I'm so pleased for you to be gaining a new piggie she sounds very special indeed, I hope the other are kind to her and hope to see a pic of her

8 is a good even number .. good luck and look forward to the pics when she is settled xx

So glad you are talking her, hope all goes well with the bonding.

Well done, that's one very lucky piggy coming to your lovely piggy home. I'm sure you will work out a way to fit her into your set up

All the best with the bonding.

Polydactyly ( an extra toe on the back feet) is not frequent, but not all that uncommon, either. As long as the extra toes are firmly attached to the feet, they can stay on.

Best start with having her as an alongside piggy for a day or two, so she can get her bearings and the others can meet her through the bars. that often makes acceptance easier and less stressful on the newbie.

Shes called Hobnob at the moment but I'll be changing her name. I haven't actually seen her yet so I'll decide on a name tomorrow when she arrives.

I almost want to call her Iris.... but I feel a little mean!

even numbers are a good thing ;) its nice your taking her :) keep us updated x

She's arrived and absolutely gorgeous! She needs a nail trim which I'll do once she's more settled. Although she's fairly confident already. She's in a ferplast 120 until I introduce her to the others. :)

Still deciding on names. My boyfriend suggested Leela (cyclopse from futurama)

Mum likes Maple but I already have a Mabel!

Here she is:

She's gorgeous! I'm glad you took her with you, and I'm crossing my fingers for the bonding to work!

And I vote for Leela, I really like it!

I love her, she looks so cute with one eye. I wonder if she will wheek in the wrong direction like Tim does ;)

Oh my what a stunner she's beautiful aaahhh I'm sure she will be a delight to own well done you xx

:D Aaaawww, she is beautiful! What a sweetie! Those nails are very long.

I know! :( I'm going to tackle them tonight. Her extra toes have fairly curly nails on them so thats going to be a challenge.

She does look tiny in the photos haha :) Shes fairly average size and has a good little piggy bum on her. :luv:

Still not sure about her name. I thought Leela would be it but it still doesn't seem to fit her. I'll have to keep thinking.

Oh god she's beautiful. :love:What happened that she's missing an eye?

Apparently she kept getting infections in it that never seemed to clear up. So in the end she had to have it removed.

I'm currently googling names that mean wither Brave or Hard working. I think she deserves a name that reflects what shes been through but she came out fighting. :)

Merida from the film Brave! :))

Is she quite happy and confident? She's absolutely beautiful

Aww I love that film! If only she had curly ginger hair haha! :P

Shes spent most of the afternoon in her hidey. I think you can tell she is very lonely. :( I'm debating if I should try bonding tonight or not. Its the only time I have to fully sit and do it all properly this week. I don't want her to go downhill at all. She is a little stunner.
