Well here we are again.... they say things come in threes so hopefully this is the last for now!

When cleaning the pigs out last night, Peanut ran into the corner and made two little squeals which I've never heard before. When she moved I saw 2 soft-ish poops.

I've come in from work and have heard a similar noise. I looked in and saw her in the same place. I don't know if the poops were from then or from while I've been out.

She came wheeking over to the cage as usual to get a treat from me and munched it straight down.

I've stood quietly in their room for 20 minutes hoping to see if she does it again. How long do they normally take between poops? As much as I love her I don't really want to stand there all night waiting to see if she makes a noise!

I've never had a pig with a UTI so I'm new to this. I've checked with my cavy savy vet and I can't get an appointment until Tuesday.

Any tips/advice much appreciated. Do I need to see a vet before then? I'm going to get them out for floor time later and will keep a close eye on her.

Guinea pigs don't eat all the time and don't poop all the time. They do it in batches. They also have to digest their food twice (hence the poos they eat, which are produced to at a different time). They have this eat and sleep/digest rhythm.

See a vet when you are sure of the symptoms. Too early, and he may not be able to diagnose anything especially as the onset of any UTI/cystitis is often not consistent; i.e. not all pees hurt and not all contain blood.

If the poos get formless and mushy, please take your piggy off any fresh veg for a day or two. See a vet if the poos do not firm up again in that or if your piggy develops runny diarrhea.

I think the soft poops are because my husband fed them yesterday morning and he thinks he might have given them more greens than usual So I have cut the amount back down which I hope will sort that out.

I really hope she doesn't have anything wrong. I'd hate her to be in pain and having to wait to go to the vets. Will I need to take a urine sample with me if I do have to take her?

Thank you for replying xx

Hopefully, it is just a mild tummy upset that rights itself again in a day or two! Illnesses tend to happen in batches in my experience. In between you'll have good times again. ;)

You do not need to take a urine sample. If your piggy really has UTI it is generally very easy to get some urine for testing during the examination.

First they had mites, then Peanut got that eye infection and now this. I'm hoping I'm just being too concerned and she is actually fine and I'm looking into it too much xx

It is normal to be more jittery when you have had a few issues close together.
