Hey

So little Jeff was castrated on Friday, and was given antibiotics - I've decided to give him the antibiotics because I don't have a lot of faith in the RSPCA vet! (When mine were castrated, I didnt bother with antibiotics because I'm confident in my vets ability to operate aseptically!)

Anyway, I was given antibiotics so called into work and picked up some probiotic, critical care sachets, vit C etc. so I was prepared for what the little pig needed. Hes eating fine, taking his antibiotics fine, but he HATES the probiotic!

I'm using fibreplex, and TRYING to get one graduation into him, twice a day - but argh lol - he hates it - I've tried putting it on food - he won't touch it - I've tried tricking him into eating it (here, have a bit of your fav food, and some more, and another bit, and some with probiotic on! - nope!)

At the moment I'm syringing it into his mouth and I'm getting some of it into him, but hes spitting about half of it out - obviously some is better than nothing - his poos are normal and hes eating fine so my question is this...

How important is probiotic when your piggy is on antibiotics? (And are there any easy ways of getting it into them?!)

Nigel has been on probiotic while he has been on Doxy. He is off it now so have stopped the probiotic. We found he liked to lick it off a spoon though am not sure Jeff would do this if he doesn't like it. Could you mix it into his critical care? we have done that too.

I was thinking of trying that - hes not on the critical care, cos he was eating straight away after his anaesthetic, but i was thinking of mixing it up into a watery paste and trying to get it into him that way

It's worth a try even if it is only 1 or 2 spoonfuls of critical care. Nigel doesn't have it syringed anymore but he eats it off a spoon or out of a bowl.

Thats so cute! I expect my 3 boys would just scoff it - they will eat anything that sits still for too long! Jeff is happy with having the baytril syringed into his mouth, which is something cos that stuff tastes foul!

Oh that's good then, you're right it's horrible stuff.

Lol, I think my other pigs would scoff the lot too.
