Problems getting piggy to eat after dental

If he’s okay in himself, I’d wait until Friday. Just keep getting as much food into him. Will he eat softened nuggets off a plate? Porridge oats are always good too and easy to eat xx

Hi again. Sorry to keep asking things but I’m so worried about Dobby. He has an appointment booked in Northampton this Friday. We’re syringe feeding him to keep him going as he is getting worse every day. He doesn’t seem able to eat at all now apart from having a go at very soft veg like the inside of cucumber. His drooling is becoming horrific and is affecting his syringe feeding as food is dribbling out of his mouth with the drool. It’s taking so long to syringe feed him that it’s almost constant feeding at the moment. He was around 1.3kg when healthy. He’s been hovering between 910g and 940g since last Friday but today he’s under 900g. I’m worried he’s going to starve before Friday - do you think he’ll be ok until then? It seems such a long time away 😱

I’m in such a state.

Hello Jozza

Just got back from holiday in Devon. How is your little chap doing? Did you manage to get him down to see Simon. Wishing you all the luck, do hope he is ok

Nothing worse when a piggy slave doesn't let you know how things are you sit & imagine allsorts of things.
She is probably busy. Hope everything went well Jozza

Hi Jozza, just wondering how things are now? We had a similar situation this week..hope it went well, x
Hi he’s doing really well thanks. He’s put some weight back on and is eating normally again. Simon is a miracle worker! We go back on the 20th for a check up. Is your piggy ok now? X

Hi thank you for asking about Dobby. We saw Simon last Wednesday and Dobby is doing great. He can eat normally and is gaining weight. I’m so glad I joined this forum 😊 Here is a pic of Dobby trying out his new Ikea bed before his brother got in it too 😂F99C1868-8800-4A1E-9EB9-27B0D3F4818A.webp

Yes thank you. He’s doing great now thanks. You’re right about being busy- been to Nottingham university open day today with my daughter 😊

Oh so glad he is doing well. What a lovely piggie he is. Simon is fab, he really knows his stuff, it's amazing how they start eating straight away. I would recommend him to anyone with dental problems. So happy he's is doing well. Ted is still putting weight on each week and has been a really good boy eating his hay now. So pleased for you and Dobby!

PS I live in Cornwall now but come from Harrogate, we used to have a boat in York Marina!

O that's fantastic news. So happy for you. No sadly our Rosie didn't recover after her op. She was very weak the day after and passed away. All very sad. Yes he does seem like a miracle worker Simon, seems he knows something that most vets don't.. so happy for you, you feel so helpless when they don't eat x

Glad you have taken Dobby to Simon. We live in Denbigh, North Wales and we always go straight to Simon if there is a dental problem with my piggies. The travel is worth it all the time. Like you said, Simon is a miracle worker.

That's for letting us know Jozza. I'm really glad dobby is back on his feet. Was it a new problem with his teeth, or the vet at fault.
What's your daughter going to study?

I’m so sorry about Rosie. Sending lots of love xx

Yes it was a very sudden problem which our vet wasn’t able to sort properly due to lack of piggy dental knowledge.
She wants to do a degree in primary teaching x

I have just caught up with this thread.

Threads like this really give me a lump in my throat.

First off everyone of the forum is so supportive and helps advise, you really are all a credit to TGPF

second - and this can't be stressed enough Simon is an amazing vet - a life saver

and thirdly @furryfriends (TEAS) (Debbie) and TEAS without this sanctuary and Simons work Piggies with severe dental issues wouldn't have the chance of recovery that they do have.

TEAS provide life saving treatment and Debbie has both permemnat residents and temporary residents in her care that are having life saving treatment by Simon. Debbie works so hard around the clock syringe feeding, those off us who have syringe fed a piggy know how hard it is, now imagine doing that multiple times for many day after day....
We on TGPF are so lucky to know of TEAS and their work. So if any one reading this can help even a little Debbie needs idea for fundraising as she has been hit with a huge vet bill for the sanctuary details here Fundraising urgently needed!

I will be running a few piggy related charity auctions this week on forum for her so keep an eye out

Anyway sorry for hijacking your thread @Jozza1972 I am sooooo pleased your little man is doing well and I look forward to seeing more of his handsome photos on forum over next few weeks x

Thank you Lee! I am sat here, looking around my lounge, thinking 'what the hell have you done'? I am drowning in piggies with issues, but I know that, between me and Simon, we will be able to sort them out! We just need to keep funds coming in! xx

It would be interesting to know what he does differently, he should run a course for other vets!
He's happy for any vet to go and spend time with him, to see what he does, but none seem interested. It really worries me, as although Simon is nowhere near retirement age, when he does, all his knowledge and skill will be lost.

Makes me so sad that vets in general don't seem to have this knowledge when, as it seems, "failed" dental procedures seem not too uncommon🙁
