H :)
I don't have guinea pigs, but my friend does so I'm posting for her really.
She has two guinea pigs who are about 3 years old and they used to live together (not sure if they're related). One had to be taken out a few weeks/months ago to have surgery on an absess. She is now well enough to live with the other guinea pig, but my friend is having problems getting them back together. They just fight, she said.
I've bonded rabbits, but not guinea pigs so I'm just looking for a bit of advice. If my friend keeps having problems, I'm going to do it for her. But I want some advice to pass on first :)
I've told her to do it on neutral terrotory, and to give them plently of veg.
Anything else? Also, is a bit of nipping normal or not? I know my rabbits chased a bit but again, no experience of guinea pigs!

Hopefully a bit of advice will do the world of good so any tips? Thanks :)

Hello.
When i bonded my boars i put them in the run in the garden with a big plate of veg.
I left them for a couple of hours and just watched in case there was any blood.
Yes there was a bit of rumbling, humping and teeth chattering but nothing serious and now they live happily (when their humping each others faces) in a big cage with a food bowl, water bottle and hay rack each.
Make sure your friend has 2 of everything for them.

Good luck and keep us updated x

Thanks :) Sounds simialr enough to rabbits, think I'll pop round there next week and get it started for her :)

the general rule is dont intervene unless blood is drawn. i tend to be really noisy if they are squabbling and as already said use veg to distract.

You can try and give them a bath with the same shampoo; getting dry and grooming each other may also help with rebonding.

She has to treat them like they are strangers and has to formally introduce them on neutral territory with some food as distraction.

I wish your friend the very best of luck!

If I am introducing a piggy into the hutch/cage of another one, whilst they are on their neutral territory, I always scrub out the cage and completely re arrange it, (bottles, dishes, hideys toys all in new places) so it is almost like a new and different cage, so the original one doesn't realise it was his, maybe, and is less inclined to be territorial x
