Senior Guinea Pig
As well as running the Piggy Dating Service for lonely pigs out there I also spend a fair bit of time trying to pair up the single boys while they are in rescue in case their perfect partner is in the cage just across the room.
Today baby Gareth had to leave his mum as he's now 21 days old and has reached weaning weight (250g). He's moved in with a year old teddy male who has proved too aggressive and dominant to bond with other adult males or sub-adults. A baby is his last chance before being considered for the snip.
There was lots of humping from the teddy and he's certainly left his calling card on the baby in the form of a big glob of boar glue that I've had to cut out, but now that he's done that he's much more relaxed and calm with him.
The other date that's going on is between two of the more high maintenance boars - Both stunningly beautiful but need a lot of grooming so I thought if I could bond them then I would only need to find one home that can cope with their level of grooming rather than two. Well that was the plan anyway...
Initially all was ok, no aggression just interest in each other, more interest in the veggies, yay all good I thought. Then the look came in the texel's eye and that was it - WAR! A very swift intervention and they are back in their own cages once more - a second later and there would have been two injured pigs.
Here's the only pic of these two together that will ever be seen of them. Honestly! Why can't they just be nice!
So not every date is successful, even when you're experienced LOL.
