my boys have been on the treatment for ringworm. We have just started the second cycle of intrafungol. The oldest boys seem fine, no scabs now or open sores but the baby has pretty much a bald nose again and the start of open sore bits. Is this normal?

No, that is not quite normal. Please contact your vet.

Your boy may suffer from an underlying issue that is suppressing his immune system.

I’d agree with Wiebke. That is not my experience of the oral fungal medication so you will need to contact the vet and get the baby seen by the vet.

I was going to get the vet to see him next week anyway :(
I was hoping it would be okay, had nothing but problems with this one :( his life here has been awful so far. I’ve barely been able to handle him :(

Sounds like you’re doing so much for him & I’m sorry he’s still not right. Hopefully the vet will sort it out soon. Big huge hugs x

He is in caring and loving hands, and he can feel that despite his need for medication. ;)

Thank you, he is only about 8 weeks old.. I’ve had his since just before the new year and I had him a week before his first vets trip :( fingers crossed. He is still eating and drinking well so that’s a good sign hopefully!

Continue with the treatment, but discuss with your vet you also need to treat topically and whether there can be an underlying problem. Normally uptake of itrafungol is very good, but we have come across cases where it may not be enough if the immune system of a guinea pig cannot help.

She did say something about using a cream or something.. the first cycle he seemed to be alpt better and t was all clearing up.. the other two are fine, no real scabs anymore.

I'm going through prolonged ringworm with just one piggy. For the past two weeks he has been treated. Initially a spray prescribed by the vet which did the trick but then I saw a new patch above his eye. The second week I wash the affected area with imaverol (trying not to leave him too wet as they are in the garage and it's too cold at the moment. Still it hasn't completely gone. No big scabs, no scratching but there is hair loss and dry skin patches. The vet is doing me a prescription for itrafungol so I can buy it cheaper online and I'm praying this sorts it out. If it does go away then as soon as it's warm enough all four of them will be treated with imaverol again to make sure they aren't carrying any spores. I'm exhausted from the constant treating and disinfecting everything

Yeah, that’s the things getting to me at the moment. All the extra work of cleaning and disinfecting and the expense of the vet costs. It’s cost me almost £200 so far :(

I feel you there. I spent £50 last time at the vets and £25 today. Will have a prescription soon and it will cost me another £50 for the meds. All this on top of the £300 for his abscess operation which was only in November. It's a good job I have a vet fund put to one side

We have been given some hibiscrub to use twice a day on the bad areas to see if it improves and then hopefully a final trip to the vet in another 2 weeks!
