got up this morning, and usually romeo squeaks for his breakfast, he was quiet, which i took note of, but he did come out of his house and eat. Any way got home from work at 3 30, wennt straight in to see them all, and there is blood in the cage, he looks poorly, as in his eyes are nt fully open, i picked him up. and he is wet (i think blood)around the back of his back legs, looks similar to wet tail in hamsters, so i have made an appt for 6 at the vets tonight, i am taking him and marble together, marble was nt too happy when romeo went near him in the cage, chattered his teeth at him, i dont think they have been fighting though , have watched them constantly since i got home, i think it is a reaction to romeo being unwell ? any thought on what this could be? i will let you all know what the vet says when i get back, we are very worried, this is sosudden x

I'm not sure what it could be, but just wanted to wish you and romeo luck. Hope he gets better soon and keep us updated!

Aw poor Romeo. Fingers and paws crossed. Get well soon little man x

thanks for all your good wishes, i hae been trying to update on here, but i could nt get on the site til now! well i took him and marble along, and the vet gave a thorough examination, i tried to get a wee sample before i went, but little monkey sat for over an hour in a plastic box and did nt do a wee. I also tok some of the paper with blood on it from the cage, as to me it does nt look like it is in his wee anyway. the vet looked for any signs of a wound (possible bite?) but none were found, no sign of bladder stones either, i think he was a bit flummoxed, could nt find any real cause for the bleeding, but it was on the fur round his bottom. so i have baytril til thrs, then back to vets, i have given his bottom a wash, and he has a nice cosy sack to go in. but i am worried , he is only about 10 mths, and such a lovely boy, please send healing vibes x x

It is really good that the vet could not find anything as it may just be from a cut or bite. I am sorry you are so worried. I really hope it is nothing and he is well.

dont mean to sound daft but its defo his blood is it, not from the other piggy?

sending vibes either way x

Might be a good idea to put him on a white towel for abit, or perhaps a pale coloured fleece, so you can spot any more blood nice and fast. Just untill hes in the clear.

Hope hes feeling better soon :)

good point, but looked over marble, and he is ok, its not just the blood,he does nt look well in his eyes, i can only describe it as squinting slightly, i have seen this before in poorly piggies, i am just hoping that we have caught whatever it is early enough to sort it out quickly

thankyou, i have completely cleaned them out,and put clean paper down, so i will spot things early x

thankyou, my dayghter(cucumber cuties )asked the vet if it was serious, and he said, because it was nt glaringly obvious where it was cooming from (the blood ) it probably was nt, but if it is a bite, that means marble bit him, so i may have other problems there, but they have always been so calm together, so i am mystified, and if he did bite him, why does romeo look unwell ?

It is so strange. I wonder what it could be. You have to keep an eye on him and maybe weigh him to see if he is eating. Poor baby.

Well that is a very good sign. Eating shows he is not as bad as he seems. :)

What his drinking habits like?

I would be interested in getting a urine sample into the vet, I had a pig who was unwell for a period of time not drastically it was small things. I remember returning home from work and found her drenched in her urine all round her bum, looking very miserable.

The problem with pigs - you can allocate symptoms to pigs and it's not always the same illness on many occasions it's something totally different but if he was my pig I would be interested in ruling out protein in the urine due to infection, glucose (Diabetes) and blood of course. An X-ray for bladder stones to, as they aren't always found by palpation.

Keep a close eye on his weight, poops and food intake.

I do however hope the Baytril does the trick but if you do have to go back, worthwhile taking a urine sample.

Whee are sorry to hear about Romeo :(:...

I know what you mean, you can just look at their eyes and know something is not right! Good spotting love xx>>>
